|
|
| I have heard many methods of attaching carerra GT flares. Pop rivet, glue, bolt etc, but what was the factory method? How were the originals installed, and can a diagram be found of them. I know there were large gaskets that went between the body and the flare. everything else is mystery to me. |

Steel
Threaded bolts fixed to rectangular metal inserts are molded into the Polyurethane rear arch extensions.
These are then fixed through the corresponding holes in the steel body by M6 nuts and washers.
I don't know of a detailed diagram- page 200 of the 924 parts list at porsche.com shows you the fixings. _________________ 924 Carrera GT

I almost did that with my GT racing flares. I took a bunch of bolt stock, and cut it to 2-3" lengths, welded peices of strap metal one end. My plan was to put them on the inside of the flare and lay fiberglass over the strap metal on the end of the stud. My only problem was, once I had put all these studs on the fender flare, getting holes drilled in the body to match the studs EXACTlY, would be a nightmare. So I pop-riveted the flares on. I had to lay exra fiberglass at each rivet location, and then countersink a 3/8 hole for the rivet head. I think i used 12 to 15 rivets on each side.
If I ever have to remove the flares, I will drill out the rivets, and use bolts. The head will fit in the countersunk hole and I will just Glass it in. It should fill the same purpose, yet enable me to remove and attach the flares later in a heartbeat. |

First let me ask, did you cut up the wheel arches?
Why did you not glue them with two part epoxy also.
Oh well, I hope they don't flex. _________________ "Never let them see you sweat"

now why would i not cut and seal my wheel arches first? I stuffed 10 inch wide tires in there. That is the whole reason for the flare man! |
