Fuel Filter won't fit!!!!HELP

I have a new fuel filter arrived cause mine's full of rust and dirt,Just come to fit it and one of the banjo bolts is to large and wont fit in,I took it back to the shop and got a refund thinking it was the wrong one,I then ordered another,This time from euro,And came across the same problem,Checked the part numbers on both filters and they are correct!!!,I have just replaced one of my injectors due to clogging,and dont fancy replacing anymore!!!Has anyone else had this problem,I need to fit a filter PLEASE HELP?????

The fuel filter has an adaptor which you need to swap over fromyour old filter. (Hope you haven't thrown it away yet!)

Also you'll need to replace the soft copper (or aluminium) sealing washers between the joints (should be included with your new filter.)

Well i thought that,but there is no adaptor on the old filter,It just bolts straight on at each end,no adaptor,nothing!!!I have re-fitted it so I can drive it.

Is your car a turbo? That has different fittings on the fuel filter. Are you absolutely sure you've got the right type?

Another thought is someone has at some stage modified the pipework to accept a different type of filter (possibly from a complete different make...?)

My car is a 1979 non turbo,Looks like it is the wrong filter mine is smaller than the new one,I will return it and try and match the old one up.

mines a 79 and the normal 924 filter doesnt fit, but the 928 filter does just fine, its bigger too so it wont fill up as fast as the smaller 24 filter, but it its a little more pricie and wont fit the braket that holds it to the body

this may have answered a question I too have regarding fuel filter, 80 931 --will the 'brass looking' femal adapters on each end screw off?? A new filter just arrived UPS but does not have the adapters on the ends, by measurement everything else is the same and the box says 928/928s,
its a Mahle KL3

Jay Rome - As far as I can tell from the parts list, both series 1 and 2 931s take the same fuel filter part #931.110.149.04 (Mahle KL8). I don't know what you'd have to do to make a KL3 work, but yes you should find the end fittings are removable - with some difficulty. I've removed them from used filters and found they're glued as well as screwed on.

i hate the parts game.
try getting parts for a 1982 toyota starlet, now that is truly horrific.

i apologize for going off topic, but i'd prefer to ask in this instead of starting a new thread.

i haven't been on the board in quite a while, and i've gained a lot more automotive knowledge in the past few months, atleast practical knowledge and not just thory, but anywho.....earlier this year, which i completely forgot about! I bought a 8 gallon fuel cell in fair condition that meets pretty much all sanctioned event standards (NASCAR WOOO!!!).

i forgot about this fuel cell because i just put it in the basement after i bought it, i just remembered.....i'm guessing my 77 has a rusty tank, i have to drain the fuel once the stupid snow is gone and i'll probably toss half a gallon or so and attempt to slosh it around via pushing on the car and drain it again.

but anyway, if i'm to pull the original fuel tank and replace it with the fuel cell, can i just run a single OEM post tank fuel pump?

Thinking about it, 91rocco, I remember that Euro Car Parts sent me a 928 filter the first time I ordered one for my car. There seems to be a drop off in their internal numbering system.

The 928 filter is much fatter than the proper 924 filter. I can't remember how it compares in terms of length and fittings.

sorry to bump this, but i wanted to get working on my 924 and was curious to know if what i asked is alright.
my tank is a unknown variable that could be taken out of the issues equation.

That's what early 924s did, so I don't see why not. Provided the fuel cell maintains an uninterrupted gravity flow to the main pump under all conditions of cornering, braking, accelerating, rough roads, etc, etc.

Presumably, competition fuel cells are legal for road use where you are...?
