Yeah, I have seen it around too, but i haven't found the guy who did it. Unless that is Robertos car, but he paid a mechanic to do it, and I don't think he can provide much tech info...

Apparently the motor drops in, and uses the same mounts as a 951. Hooks up to the stock clutch, or a 951 clutch... I would go with the 968 drivetrain, they signifigantly strengthened the tranny when they went over to the 6 speed, and they revised the torque tube, making it much easier to replace the clutch. That was a good rant

actually Cbass, I went crazy looking all over for a good image of a 996 engine crammed in the back, but couldn't find one. So I came across that picture and had to use it as an analogy. Lucky for us, I messed up the first time trying to post the pick and printed the URL or I wouldn't even know where I found it.
The URL is at http://www.968.net/modifications/images/968_engine_in_a_944.jpg ,
but there are other cool things at

Ah yes, I am a lurker on the 968.net forums...

I'm not sure where in BC you would be able to find one... My mention of the engine dropping in refers to 944s, and 924S's, not 924s. I could put one in a 924 though... It ain't no thang

Yeah, they have a habit of charging several limbs for a new engine.

I could get you one, but it would be in the states. There are quite a few people doing this... I know a guy in Poland who is putting one in his 952, but it's going to be a turbo 3.0 motor(faaast). I likewise wish to do a 968 Turbo as a track car, to run in SCCA A class, against Saleens and Vipers, and Peter Kitchack, in his aging 911 Turbo...

i was looking at the company in the states that does up 968 engines for like $22000 usd and apperantly someone put one in a 944 with a 968 tube and tranny and he was pushing 479BHP at the wheels, he was able to do a burn out at 100+mph now that would be nice

That would be a turbo conversion on a 968. I can do that for $5000 USD. The stock 968 motor is worth about $2000 used.

The 968 16V Turbo is a good motor for sure. Kokeln does a really good turbo conversion, using stock pistons and head, but new rods to lower the compression. At 20 lbs of boost, these things make more than 500hp...

The real story is the torque though. The original 968 8V turbos made 370 ftlbs of torque, but aftermarket 16Vs with variocam can make 450 ftlbs without difficulty. I am planning on building one for my 968 track car, when I have the cash and time to spare.

That would be USD... From what I have been told, it is a major PITA to put a 944 or 968 motor in these cars, they use a different crossmember. However, with my advanced fabrication skills, I'm sure I could rig something up. For the time, trouble and money involved, it would probably be better to start with a 924S, the motor drops right in. That is my plan.

I would go for the Audi swap, according to my sources it is fairly straightforward and simple. The 968 swap requires a whole new drivetrain.
