I'm sure most of you have seen vids, movies, or clip about the various cross country races, cross continent in some cases. cannonball type road rallies. Now theres a reality type show with a scaled down version of the (in)famous bull run on tv. you find clips on you tube and such and i think it airs weekly on spike tv.
one of the things ive always wanted to do, and will do at some point, is a cross country rally. the expense for most these is pretty high, entry fees and running costs make for a fairly high investment , makes it difficult to actually do and beyond reality for most of us working folk. I would like at some point to get a bunch of people together , preferably with lots of 924/944 Porsche owners and other more affordable car and club members.
anyhow, i was looking at the bull run website and theyre putting together the bullrun 1000. it looks like fun, though i have no interest in any commercial versions like theyre doing, nor would i want to be on tv, but perhaps some might want to give it a shot.
basically, their latest project is too have a race similar to the current tv show, with the catch being you have to spend $1000 or less on your ride, and be able to prove it. the 924 came immediately to mind as a very competitive entry. find one for $800 or so, duct tape the rear hatch to keep the fumes out, toss the carpets, give the suspension and engine a once over and just go.. there arent any specific rules posted, so i dont know if you can take one home to your garage and mod it out with existing parts caches or not, or if you can have a support crew but it seems like a blast..
anyone up for the challenge? id love to see a 924.org supported entry... wont be me, but maybe one of you can try and qualify... id even donate some of my n/a spare parts for the effort if its allowed..

If the rules are like GRM's challenges, you can recoup some costs by selling discarded components. . .might shake loose a couple more bucks. _________________ Toofah King Bad

That sounds great.
There is an even tighter budget rally in europe. Calais to krakow. You can't spend any more than £100 (less than $200) on a car....i think i will rule out a 924, but i might do it next year.

Too bad there's not a lot more info... a running 924 turbo would be a cool car to find for such a race _________________ Ryan Moone
