Hi Guys,
just got the 924 through its MOT its not been on the road since 1999
just waiting for a log book to arrive then i can put some rent on it.

The car is running very sluggish i would not put the power to anymore than a 1.1 fiesta it runs fine ticks over perfect etc. there just aint no go,

so where do i start?
Do i just send it somewhere local Sheffield) to sort, (any recommendations) or one of you guys maybe,

but firstly,
i'll put in a new air filter OE or any other, which do you recommend?
It has new plugs in it as it was tuned but only for emissions.
it will have a blood transfusion next week,
other than that i dont know where to begin.

Andy

They can often be sluggish if let sit for a while. I'd suspect clogs/restriction/junk in the fuel system; may need to check the warm-up regulator even, for proper function... likewise fuel injectors for clogging/spray pattern, fuel pressures, etc.

I hope you got rid of the old fuel and put in fresh, possibly with a bottle of Techron?

Check the ignition timing. If it's running retarded, then it will feel very gutless.

If its an auto you will not have much go either.
The gears in an auto are high and you have good cruising speed but poor acceleration.
Euro cars are tuned to 10 deg BTDC.
Check injectors, pressures etc as mentioned in the other posts.

...but you might want to knock it back to 6° or 7° if you're running on standard unleaded.

Who tuned it for emissions? Some garages get carried away and set the mixture too lean, which also makes the car sluggish. The 'offical' CO reading is meant to be 1% - 2%, but if you set it to nearer 2.5% - 3%, you'll still be well inside the 4% MoT limit for this age of car and the performance will be a bit more sprightly (don't expect miracles, though!)

What year is the 24? If it's older, you may also want to make sure the timing is advancing, distributor vaccuum lines hooked up, etc.
