I built my replacement bushings from aluminum, and yes it does rattle a little, but I just didn't have any urethane available at the time. the build would have been the same using either material; I turned it down to the larger of the 2 radii needed, came in the proper thickness, then turned the rest down to the smaller radius. then I drilled out the center hole to fit but enough to allow smooth movement. Then, I removed half of the larger part's circumference with a grinder. it would be easier with urethane; a hot knife would remove it quite quickly.
Next time I will use urethane for sure; I think I want the quieter ride.

You need new bushings and IMO they should not be metal unless you like your shift lever and shift forks to rattle...

Not saying this could not be a side effect but I have antidotal evidence it does not. I replaced my bushings with oil impregnated bronze and it had no rattle. It even had less hum than a 931 I have driven with the snail tranny. YMMV.

BTW, anybody want to buy my shifter setup? It's tight.
