A vocal minority of north Portland residents is trying to pressure the City Council into closing down PIR, due to noise. Mind you, the track has been in place for FORTY FIVE years, and many of these complainers knowingly moved into trackside neighborhoods, in a noisy industrial area (airport, train yards, Columbia river shipping traffic and Interstate 5).

Sound like BS to you?

You can help us by joining Friends of PIR, and let your voices be heard. Particularly those of you in the PacNW, and I know there are a lot of you, PLEASE join now. Its free!

TIA

rasta

That sounds like the same thing with a dirt track here in Omaha. It was here for years, then the new neighbors thought it was too loud and had it shut down. It happens also with some farm that have been around for many years. They smell and the new neighbors fight to have them stop smelling...essentially stop being in business. That stuff sucks as they were there first and shouldn't need to change. Just my $0.02.

Sure, it's your name, a statement that you support PIR and would like to watch or participate in an event there, and that you would be patronizing area businesses in the process.

You should stop in for the historics. . .I'll be putting together an informal Toofah Camping Corrall. . .

Well we do have Stanley Park which is pretty awsome but you can only do 100mph around it at about 5 am on a Sunday morning. Not that i've ever done that a few times.

The same thing happens at small airports. Someone buys a lot on the extended center line of the runway, then complains when someone knocks over their kid's swing set with the planes landing gear...

IT WASN'T ME!!!

Might be a rough go at saving the course since it's owned by the city. It would probably only take a vote by residents to close the track.

Here we have a privately owned drag strip, that went through the same ordeal. The owner's won there case in court. The strip is allowed to remain as long as it is operated atleast once a year. If it does not it will be closed for good.

Hope it remains open, its to hard to find places to race these days.

We used to have an auto-cross course associated with Mid Ohio, but now it's gone.

Careful-

The same thing happened in Edmonton in the early eighties. We lost our track and still, to this day do not have a paved track for racing. In its glory days we hosted Can-am races and it was a major source of revenue for both the city and local automotive businesses

Track Map and info:

http://www.na-motorsports.com/Tracks/CAN/ALB/Edmonton.html

Story about EIS:

http://www.rewedmonton.ca/content_view2?CONTENT_ID=772

More EIS Info:

http://www.grandprixedmonton.com/v2/media_history.php

Now we have a Paved 1/4 mile beside the airport.. It keeps the Muscleheads happy, We are running a Grandprix event once a year at a closed down municipal airport, but that only exists for one weekend a year...
