I have a stock 924S LeMans SE. 2.5L 163HP, adjustable coilovers. 7" tires. I am ready to rebuild the engine and chassis to the most ferocious terrifying road machine a 2.5L 924 can be.
Already on the list is a set of fuchs alloys, 944 front fenders, rear flares, wheel spacers to improve the width, but what is needed to make my engine outrageously powerful? I hope to double the horsepower if that is realistic.
I am open to any and all ideas on engine and suspension. I have about a 6K budget to work with.

Nothing short of fitting a 951 engine will get you double the power of the 2.5L. $6k won't get you there.

There isn't much you can do with the 2.5L short of forced induction. I think the supercharger crowd is only just approaching stock 951/S2 output of ~220hp.

If you're going through all the trouble of putting on fender flares to make your 924S look like a 944, then why not just sell it and buy an good 951/S2 for ~$8k?

This sort of question is entired based on how much time and skill you have. If you can weld, fabricate, have access to a lathe and various other equipment. Then you can probably do what you want (imo) but if you have to pay someone else or buy a 'kit' to get that kind of power, your going to need more money.

I would think if you went with something like this:

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Vortech-V-5-Supercharger-Head-unit_W0QQitemZ160060156210QQihZ006QQcategoryZ33741QQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem

you should be able to pull 250HP reliably. You would need some sort of fuel and spark managment though.

I thought that porsche themselves were ablt to get over 300 horse power from the audi engine in the 924 carerra they raced. So why cant you get over 300 horsepower from a 2.5 944 eng?

Nobody said you couldn't get that amount of power. . .it's just unlikely you can do it for $6k unless you have the skills & equipment alluded to by Min.

Maybe this will give you some ideas...I'm targeting ~300HP from my 931 ultra wide body project, as follows:

ALREADY COMPLETED
stroker crank (added 1/4 inch) $450
overbore and align honed to 2.3L (holbrook racing) $650
custom pistons with ceramic tops and teflon skirts (diamond racing) $750
air-to-air intercooler $0 (came with donor)
rebuilt turbo $400
race-prepped snailshail with LSD $900
used race suspension $200
lightening $0 (just a lot of hard work)
TOTAL BUDGET SO FAR: ~$3350

IN THE WORKS
up the boost from stock 6psi to ~20psi $200
boost controller $100
methanol injection for add'l charge cooling and octane boost $250
fuel enrichment if necessary $???
MSD ignition $250
lightened valve train & Carrera GT cam grind $1000
chrome-moly rods $1000
lightened flywheel $350
930 clutch setup $500
seal kit $350
exhaust $500
IN-THE-WORKS BUDGET: ~$4000

I am planning another ~$7500 in other expenses, such as brake upgrades, roll cage, body work, paint, suspension upgrades, motor mounts, etc. That's all for stage 1. Stage 2 plan is to replace the entire fuel delivery system (fuel cell, convert to EFI), with a planned budget of ~$4000.

Now look, before anyone tells me "why not just go buy a such-and-such", it's because I WANT to build the car from the ground up. I also love the 924, shabby as they may be. And, no matter how you look at it, squeezing 300+ HP from a 2L is pretty d*&% cool. And, to top it all off, I can't wait to show up one day at the local PCA event and blow the doors off some $90K 911 snotnose brat with my POS $15K 924

In my opinion 924 Carrera GT and GTS had genuine Porsche engines. Audi did not engineer or manufacture those engines. I just had to say this.

Actually, neither 924 nor 931 had Audi engineered engines No Audi or VW came with fuel injection on a motor like our 2.0. But the block is the same for all 2.0 cars.
