My son and I have purchased a 1977 924 that needs a lot of work. One of the major problems we are faced with is that we have no electrical power to the instrument panel as well as headlights, wipers, tail-lights, etc.
Can anyone steer us in the right direction on the best way to approach this problem. Incidentally, I did note someone who spoke of a ground problem behind the fuse block which may be a starting point? _________________ Carlos |

You are in the wrong section, if you pose the same Q in general discussions you'll get more response.
Check all your ground points on the motor, near the headlights, behind the fuse box, near the wiper motor and in the LH hatch area.
Then check all your connections on the fuse box. _________________ Porsche 924 1984 (UK import) NA

A big question! Could spend hours and pages on this. You are going to HAVE to get friendly with the wiring diagrams, volt/ohm meters, and test lights. The Haynes manual wiring diagrams are copies of the factory, just smaller. They are quite usable with some study.
It's more than likely that your problems are of 2 kinds: Previsou owner 'fixes' and bad/corroded connections.
Yes, one place to start on such an old car is the grounding terminals that live in the farthest most corner above and behind the fuse block. Suggest dopping the aux fuse block down, pull the main fuse block out and down. And then start cleaning and checking all the connections of both fuse blocks and the grounding 'star' terminals.
If you don't have the Haynes, get one.
I find that I can only work on the wiring with the driver seat removed. _________________ John

Seems two parallel threads going here. If the moderator notices perhaps they can be combined?
