I've heard a few guys on here that have had the rear hatch popping open as they're driving. This started happening to me as well, couldn't even go over a bump without the hatch opening. Anyway, I tried aligning , raising and lowering the adjustable catches on the hatch itself and lubricating the latches. None of it worked. Upon inspection of the latches, I noticed that they had started to wear and bevel where they secure the hatch catches. So I took the latches off, pryed them apart ( takes a bit of work with a hammer and screwdriver but it'll come ..work gently and don't use a cold chisel as it's too thick) Be careful to not pop it apart too fast as the spring will go flying and you don't wanna lose it. Ok, once you get it apart take the locking piece inside and clean it up, now you need a welder. An inexpensive arc welder will do, and fill the worn area back in with new metal. When you're done welding just file and grind it flat, smooth the catch and it'll work good as new. My welding skills are marginal at best but it was a relatively easy fix. Just work slow and don't lose parts. Took me about an hour and a half to do.Hope this helps somebody !

Yeah, its the reciever things that go bad. My current fix is that I just took out the hydrualic strut things. Its only temporary, because Im getting a low milage parts car, which has good recievers.

I've tried to open those receivers, but they are honestly a pita.

I had this issue. It came and it went away. Here was the problem's cause for me.

When I bought the Porshe the hatch couldn't stay open at all. I bought a strut (I forget from where, junkyard or parts store.) The strut was too strong, applying a constant upward pressure against the latches. The spring loaded latches would vibrate open until the hatch popped open. This would happen several times during the 45 mile trip to work. I then replaced the struts with ones that were neutral. The hatch does not open on its own, it is easy to lift open, it does not close after being lifted. This cured the problem completely. Without the constant upwards pressure, the sear is not pushed outwards by the hatch pins vibrations, or, if it isit has enough events where the hatch is pushed down long enough for the sear to get a "fresh grip" on the hatches latch pin.

Remember the locking latches are only held closed by springs, there is no positive lock or else we would need to turn the key to close it also. Replacing the struts with ones that give a neutral lift should eliminate your problem.

Struts are available in different pressures.

Sorry, I do not know the correct part number of the right amount of lift in pounds they should give.

944 struts are stronger in order to lift the heavier hatch. If lifted too high it will ruin you hatch in that it will seperate from the glass.

I replaced the struts last year with genuine items for a 931. A couple of months back I replaced the hatch seal, again genuine item, and now the right pin pops open constantly. I have tried adjusting it, nothing.

Reading the above, I will probably buy new catches.
