Khal,

Do you have a problem with me for some reason? This is the last time I'll react to your childish replies. The forum has too many helpful people to be spoiled by one person (for no reason I might add).

Khal is sort of the "spice" of the forum.

Sometimes, we like to call him Rosemary.

Uppity, eh? Just haul your dingo a$$ down here and say that!

(Hopefully that's enough smilies to let everyone know I'm joking. About the "dingo" part anyway.)

[quote="Sebring79"].I live for the corners too. Never cared much for drag racing personally.

I really try not to be negative when I post, so I will positively say an automatic transmission has no place in a sports car! Automatic transmissions work well for drag races because gobs of horsepower can overcome the disadvantages of an auto trans in a straight line However, much control and handling is lost in the curves. A manual trans is extremely useful in cornering a sports car to it's maximum potential and I can think of a more misguided statement that that above.

Wow. Another "sports car" expert. Great...

BRILLIANT! If you go back and read all of my posts you'll notice that I never said an automatic was better... I never said I wanted one for the ultimate race car. In fact, I didn't say "I want an automatic because I enjoy corners". You'll notice that I said I wanted one for the bad traffic I have to drive in every day. I already have a manual tranny 924 that I love and 2 other cars that are manuals. I don't even currently own an automatic of any kind.

And just to clear things up, I race 125cc shifter karts (notice the word 'shifter') so your statement of me being 'misguided' about cornering is just plain laughable.

One of the reasons I've always loved the 924 community is because I can't stand the snooty attitude prevalent in most of the other Porsche world. It's sad to see that it's here too.

OK, this is getting tedious. I was kidding with you, Sebring79. No, I don't like automatic gearboxes in general and especially not ones from the '70's. And yes, I was surprised anyone would actually want an automatic 924, let alone making a CGT replica out of it.

But hey, it's up to you. And I appreciate you were just looking for sound advice.

Still, it's a public forum, with enthusiasts who are passionate about their cars. You post that you're gonna make an auto (?!) CGT replica... you gotta expect to get a few choice replies to that!

I have to admit I agree with you Khal. It is very tedious.

I also know that posting on a public forum will get you more opinions than actual helpful advice.

And believe me, I'm not above joking around with people.

But... It is a bit irritating when you ask a simple question and all you get is people twisting it around and not even bothering to answer the original question.

It's a bit off putting when you just start posting on a forum and you get nothing but grief (i shouldn't say nothing because there were some helpful posts).

Anyway... Obviously I've started a touchy subject (auto transmissions) so I'll just drop it and get my info elsewhere.

I'll be very careful if I decide to talk about my snailshell tranny... Don't want to hear how little I know about cars for buying something with weak syncros. <- Joking around btw...

Sebring 79,

Looks like a few people don't like your idea of a CGT replica with an auto.

Guess they definitely won't like my version
It's a 79 924 auto with a Rover V8 stuck in the front currently it's running the Porsche auto box but as this is on the way out , I'll be cutting the floor and firewall to allow the original Rover tranny to fit and use a old Nissan diff (from one of my old race cars) at the back.
At the moment it goes well and looks like a CGT but has a slight V8 bark to it, probbaly about as fast as a US turbo as the Rover motor only puts out about 150hp at present
