So I have minor rust problems with my car, from the looks of it the only rust is small parts around the sunroof and in the driver footwell, its all surface rust though, its not weak whatsoever, could I just sand all of it and paint over it to prevent it from rusting anymore?

As long as the rust isn't too deep, yes you can.

Use POR15. Comes in colors and it has to be ground off if you get it on anything that you don't want it on. Hands too need to cleaned right away and lasts about a week on them.

I concur. This stuff is absolutely awesome. Can't recommend it highly enough.
Though I would recommend latex gloves!!!!

I couldn't get POR15 anywhere in town but I did get Tremclad Rust primer. Is that good enough? Also, I think Steve on this board recommended spraying some oil into the door jambs to keep it from rusting, and I read up on it and found out that that's what they used to do in the 60's on the underbody carriage of cars and they would never rust. Should I, after putting new undercoating on the new floorpan, just brush some oil onto it? Will this do and keep it from rusting?

Thanks

Ugh, was running wires for an amp today so i could lay some carpet and since i found some surface rust on the drivers side i figured i'd check the passenger side out too. Well, I pulled up the black padding( is that the firewall?) and see a small hole and I pull off the whole footwell padding and it pretty much looks like JB 924's footwell(before he fixed it of course), I poked it with a screw driver and it went straight through so I went ahead and grabbed it and it pulled right off, 2 big chunks of metal. I guess I got some work to do before carpet.

That sucks! I know what it feels like!
Sounds like you are talking about the sound deadener for the black
padding. The firewall is what seperates the engine bay from the inside of your car.

At least you have a walk through tutorial on how to fix it!

Good luck.
