Roger @ powerhaus II is fabricating dogteeth for 1st, 2nd & 3rd - the nice gent that he is. Approx 90 day lead time !

I believe price will be ballpark US$150 per unit.

If you're in the mkt put your requirement here... I'll point Roger to this thread later !

I'm taking 2x 1st, 2nd & 3rd.

Hey Pez,
I missed this the first time around. I can't committ to anything in the short term, but I will absolutely pick up a 1st gear dogteeth gear in the future.

How did you manage to convince powerhaus to tool these up?! This is a great service for anyone with a G31. It makes the transaxle worth keeping.

ps - Keaton, the G31 dogteeth wear notoriously badly and aren't available outside of a complete gearset (to the tune of ~$1500 if I recall). Thus the need for replacements.

As always they become available when someone thinks there is enough demand to make some money selling them....

Now am I correct in thinking you only really NEED the dogteeth if your car has a habit of popping out of gear?

Or are the synchros and dogteeth integrated?

worn dog teeth can cause trouble getting into gear, and if it doesnt fully engage then yes can cause gear pop out,

and no the syncro rings are not integrated.

To my knowledge, popping out of gear is usually a sign of bad alignment due to worn bearings\bushings or actual bad gears.

After pulling one of these tranny's apart I have to say the dogteeth are not really the problem but they are the symptom. The syncro rings and slider gears are the problem. If they don't get things up\down to speed before the dogteeth engage then bye-bye dogteeth. Infact, I think new dogteeth without new syncro rings and slide gears will actually make things worse. My 2 cents.

BTW, anyone know were I can get some rings?

Todd

hey Todd
I picked up my 1st gear syncro from the notorious Partwerks of Chicago. Their reputation is the pits, but they might have some lying around still. I think that as long as you don't buy their used parts, and stay away from their ebay auctions, then you're ok.

2nd and 3rd I got from one of those thepartsbin.com spin-offs who don't seem to be around anymore (something like performanceparts.com). partsbin lists some trans internal parts, but no syncro's anymore.

That's about all the help I can give

There has been a slight delay in completing the run of 1st gear dog rings due to confusion regarding which way the asymmetric tooth runs. Does anyone know if the tooth points clockwise or counter clockwise?

2nd & 3rd are done

Pez you're legendary!

I just picked up the last 1st gear G31 dogteeth ring in the world from PH-II

I'm sure they would make another run if the demand is there.

I pulled the trans apart over the weekend and found my 1st gear teeth worn down to nubs. There wasn't much more than that in there when I put together the last time. The syncro ring looks like it hasn't worn at all - probably because it's only in contact with 1/16" of teeth

This ought to make a world of difference shifting into 1st. woohoo!
