I just finished putting a new turbo into my 1980 931. When i went to start the car, it would run for a few seconds and die. After 2 or 3 turns of the key it would quit running all together. I have had problems with bad fuel pump connections in the past, but i dont think that is what is wrong. Has anyone experienced something similar. I believe it is the fuel metering system or the fuel pump. Also before my turbo gave out i had problems with cold starting. I changed the thermo time switch and it did not help. I thought it may be the cold start valve, but mow i am not so sure since it is about 80 degrees everyday in Michigan in the summertime.Any advice would help. Also, does anyone know what the value of a 944 turbo that has been in a flood is.

Darren,
Sounds like the cold start injector is working but after two or three starts the thermotime switch is no longer activating it. Have you tried jumping the 30 and 87 connectors of the fuel pump relay connector to see if it starts and runs? BTW don't leave it connected too long without the engine running or you could hydrolock the engine.

| I'd vote on a bad fuel pump relay. I had the same problem recently. It will run off the cold start injector charge then die. You may even hear the pump kick on initially. There's a feedback circuit in the relay which connects to the ignition module; that's what fails |

I checked the fuel pump relay and it is good and the fuel pump is running. I think my problem is in the fuel distributer. is there any way i check to see if its working properly? _________________ Darren

I had this issue with my car, and it turned out that the ignition coil was getting power during cranking, but none after the starter was disengaged. A jumper between 2 wires in the engine harness and I've never had the problem since. Sorry, I don't remember which 2 wires I jumpered. But, get out the multimeter and check for voltage to the coil from the fuse panel while the key is in the running position.
Hopefully that helps a little. _________________ '80 931 FOR SALE
