Don´t try to stop me..

I´m going to renovate the interior of my 924. Myself. By hand. Without kits. Every square inch of the interior will be new. I´ve ordered black velour to replace all carpets and casino red leather to cover all the sides, the console, glove compartment and the sun roof.

Will redo both seats in the same look (black cloth / red leather).

I will do just a little bit of cheating; remove the old carpet, clean it and glue/stitch the new one on top of it (making totally new carpets wouldn´t take much longer but I´d need something ultra-moisture-resistant like rubber mat to stitch the new carpet to = expensive).

If things work out well it will cost me about £50, a lot of time and finger pain, but I´ve got the skills to do it (I hope ) , not the money to buy kits or let someone else do it.

Centre instrument console will be piano black, instruments will have clean metal edges.

My ´81 will never smell of old-persons-house again, but more like a brand new car! And that furry brown-green forest-alike look will be replaced by something that looks out of a Viper..

Advice anyone? Besides telling me not to do this... Haha

I would do the same if I had the skills to do this. A few weeks ago I was actually considering doing this myself (except seats) but figured that I didn't have the skill to make it look factory.

With a little patience and attention to detail I am sure you will manage to get it looking great. The hardest bit is the seats so I am not sure if you are good enough to do these so you might be better off letting a pro do them. If you have your own fabric it should not cost a bomb anyway.

Good luck and make sure to post some pics when its all done!

Sam

Sounds like a cool plan, best of luck.

Thanks, I´ll need it when stitching through my fingertips..

Probably you´re right about the seats, but I will give it a try with the passenger side and see.[/i]

Just the other night I was putting my car in the garage. It was dark out and I had the headlights on. I was standing in front of the car opening the garage door. And my car, being a slate-greyish metallic colour, looked very dark metallic grey -almost silver-black (I don't know a better way to describe it).

Anyways, my dash lights aren't very strong but my stereos LCD panel throws out a surprising amount of light... and it's bright orange. My seat covers are tan with a black centre strip and the rest of the interior is tan/brown.

Strangely, in the dark, the orange light from the stereo on the tan interior made it appear a deep red colour! And I stood there for a minute just thinking how damned good it would look with a red interior!

So yeah, go for it! Should look awesome!
