I'm with Vince on this one. If you bought it as an investment, you better let someone else handle your investing from now on. If you bought it as a reliable daily driver, you must be ready to work on it and spend the money needed to keep it that way. Once they're fixed, they're pretty reliable. But you have to stay on top of it all the time.
I have no idea how much I've got into mine. I just buy stuff for it as I need it and when I find something that's a good deal, I usually pick it up, just to have spares. But I'm just as cheap as others here; I STILL haven't bought a new hinge for my wind deflector, mainly because I took it off when I put in the saratoga top and haven't bothered with it since. That was three years ago. Sooner or later, I'll find what I need for the price I want to pay. But I'd never do that with my daily driver.
Whatever I have into it, it's still less than what my wife has into repairing her '96 Tahoe!
I have to put another new water pump on my car. Second one in TWENTY-SIX years! That's not too bad. _________________ '80 924 n/a SOLD |

I just had to have my starter and solenoid replaced. The next day I drive it, the alternator belt goes. This is all happening whil I am wide body / Carrera GT ' ing it. Just a lot is happening all at the same time. _________________ '79 924 now Totaled! Carrera GT bodywork for sale!

I was talking in US Dollars. I've still saved money compared to depreciation on a new car, and hopefully, there are no major repairs on the horizon for the next five years, since "everything" has gotten a major overhaul. |

In the last 5 years:
$2250 initial price
$ 150 fuel injection parts
$ 75 belts, filters, ignition parts
$ 50 used alternator
$ 100 miscelaneous parts, vacuum amp. tie rod boots
$ 75/yr AAA membership ( money well spent )
Still needs a new exh. header and tires, figure another $350
Not bad for a shade less than $3000, the time invested in learning the workings of these cars pays me back all the time.
As far as Porsche habits go, its cheap fun. |

Morghen, I haven't had success with posting pictures here. I am not incredibly far with my conversion, but it is coming. I have the front fenders and lower valance swapped. I have the rear quarter panels sanded off. I have started to drill out the rear spoiler. I am going out of town tommorow, so I won't be able to get any new pictures up. I will try for some "before" pictures.
I probably won't do the Carrera GT hood scoop. I eventually wan't to swap out the hatch for the fiberglass "Euro" hatch. I need some Fuchs wheels. I found out that my neighbor that is helping me (I am 16) is the person that painted the Aston Martin in James Bond Goldfinger. He has also built a car that has won Best in Show at the Councours d'Elegance at Pebble Beach. I thought he was just an autobody neighbor. _________________ '79 924 now Totaled! Hmmm, let's see:
Initial cost $FREE
Rebuild engine $300
Header $250
Injection $500
Ignition $200
Blower setup $600
Used trans $100
Misc. $500
I guess around $2500 or so. Still needs interior and could use a paint job at some point. Engine will probably fail after turning up the boost too far. Then it will be clutches and tranny. It has just begun I am afraid!

I bought my car for 7000 U$S in 2003, spend around 5000 more in parts, repairs and full paint job
My car is now perfect except for one thing:
The damn A/C isn“t working after 5 or 6 repairs done and more than 1000 spend.The gaz keeps going out every 2 months.
The fun I got from my car is : priceless _________________ Euro 924 1980 N/A

£900 for the car in October 2001.
£200 for a good used motor.
£250 ish replacing front wishbones, bearings, disks, joints etc
£90 for a starter motor
Paint needs sorting out this year, but other than the above it's really just been normal service/wear&tear parts that would be changed on any car. _________________ Mars Red '78 Euro 924 n/a
