If you read my thread about going to the track, you may have seen me mention I put a nice dent in my door and rocker panel... It didn't happen at the track, but on the way home..

What I'm probably going to end up doing is taking the doors off the 944 I'm going to buy (for parts) and have the entire car repainted, at that time maybe add fender flairs, 944 front fenders, and boxed rockers.. who knows.. Thats this fall. Until then I'm gonna try to pull it out and spray it a bit..

Any suggestions??

well the rocker panel is going to be hard to straighten, I would suggest a proper body shop for that, the door wouldnt be hard to fix.

thats not a dent in the rocker panel...thats a bend

i had something similar....its not too hard but better go with a shop for both...you wont even know they were there. You dont have to paint to whole car....just the whole door and then polish the car.

Being a trained bodyman I can tell you it's an easy fix! It's crazy to think of changing the door for a tiny dent like that. A skim of putty and that gone..... You could straigten the rocker lip with a few hand tools (hammer and dolly) and the rocker below the door isn't that hard to fix either.

I would paint the door from the molding down and the rockker at the same time...then after a day or 2...repaint the black.

Thanks for the replies and the good news. I'm only afraid that it doesn't look as bad in the pics as it might be. I know it isn't terrible however its like a puncture mark, not just a dimple and there is a little crease there as well..

I'm going to take it down the road and see what the body shop says its going to cost to fix...

Just MHO but if you can find a door the right colour, it might be cheaper to just replace the door than to fix the dent. But that's only if you get a shop to fix the dent. In my very limited experience, body work costs a LOT more than mechanical work!

I was just saying to a mate today that for a project, I'd rather a nice, straight 924 with decent paint but completely crapped-out mechanicals than a car with a beat up body but good mechanicals.

Down here, a proper paint job alone can easily exceed AU$10,000 (no, I'm not kidding).

Anyway, I'm straying off topic...

I reckon if you can find a decent replacement door in the right colour, it'll probably be cheaper than getting a shop to repair the dent.

there is an episode on weelers-dealers on Dyscovery featuring a 924 that has a similar problem...they replace the door and fix the body very cheap and smart.

Since you have the vinyl covered rocker panel, just bend it back into place with your hands.

The door panel is no big deal, get a quote from Maaco.

$694 to fix the door and the rocker panel and paint it. That was from the very well known body shop in town, gonna shop around and get a few more estimates..

I got my wifes car repainted all over for that kind of money (700$), inlcuding paint itself (Sikkens). I had to strip and assemble the car by myself though and the guy was a friend of mine also...

I suggest you find the red door, install it, then wait until winter and then repaint the car totally.
