I hope that I spell the rear end muffler correctly, If it is wrong, please let me know

When I bought my car (924, 1977 euro), the position of the rear end muffler is wrong. It`s to low. I found that the mounting of the muffler is a "home made" product. The distance from the bumper to the muffler tip is about 10 cm and the compleet muffler is arround 5 cm lower.

I have found a new bracket for the exhaust, but I have still no idea about the location and mounting points. I found on the picture site of Smoothie a different (931 style?) mounting than the 924.

Has anyone got a picture or a discription? When I take a sharp corner to the right the muffler is bouncing arround.

Thanks in advice.

Have you downloaded the PET catalogue? That might show you what the rear muffler hanger should look like. The link is in the topic stuck to the top of this forum.

If you haven't got a picture by this weekend then I'll crawl under mine and get you one.

I found today a PET file of my car.

The exploded view shows a bracket, but i have no bracket? Nr 11 on page 64. Is it easy to modify a piece of metal, to solve the problem for a couple of weeks? Than I get look on the scrapyard for a bracket.

That depends on your level of skill and the tools you have available. Some mild steel and a couple "O" clamps might be a temporary solution.

What shape is the muffler that is on the car now?

Early 924 cars round shaped resonator with a bracket that was mounted between the resonator and the end of the tail pipe that connected to a bracket mounted on the chassis with fat rubber exhaust o-rings.

Later 924 and 931 cars with the oval shaped muffler had a clamp that fit around the resonator the attached to a mount that was bolted to the transmission.

My 1977.5 track car had a aluminum arm that was bolted to the tranny and like an arm attached over the muffler.

I may still have one but to ship it you are better off finding it local.

Vince, that sounds like the late model mount.

What shape is the resonator on the track car? Was it switched to an oval?

I use a 944 muffler or oval on the track car.
