Well, I bought the Hayes manual, and I have read posts here 4 2 days now, but I need help. (maybe because I am a girl ) Anyway, on my 77 924 I am having a clutch problem. When I push clutch in I here a lot of noise, let it out all o.k. I measured the distance on cable per manual specs should be 5.4 in. but it was about 6 1/2 in to 7. So I adjusted it to about 6 in. Pedal is much harder to push and there is no freeplay...noise still there. So, back on jackstands, loosened cable, removed plate from clutch to see but I am not understanding the "push the bearing" info. I put a lever into hole and I cannot move the bearing in either direction. Dont want to mess up so can somebody give me Bearings for Dummies help? I tried with car in 1st and in neutral.

o.k. so i loosened the cable adjusting nuts and I could then move bearing a little, so I stuck a scre driver up there to snug it up against plate, then I adjusted cable to position, tightend, pulled out screwdriver, checked for play. All seems O.K. So, I will drive now and get back to you soon.

Clutch is not the problem. Getting my foot to the clutch is. I am 5'61/2" tall. Seems tall enough but I cannot push clutch in without scooting way down. I had a 78n/a 15 years ago and I did not have this problem. Drivers seat is short about 4 inches of going up as much as passengers. I have looked, lubed, pushed but it wont go any further. Is this normal?

Working on this car is great. It was sitting for a long time so each drive is a TEST RUN with a tow truck driving me home. Last drive I blew the hose to the water pump. I finished that up last nite a midnite. Now I have to figure out why wipers do not come on. relay is missing but that should just be for different speeds, it should still come on at least, right?

Also, I have now realized that 90k miles on car may have been there a while as it still says 90k. hmmmm. Better look at speedo next.

Any help from you guys would be welcomed and sooo appreciated.

sounds like your seat runners are jamming. When the seat is full forward you should be able to get a socket on the two bolts at the rear of the runners.

Take a deep breath and give it a couple of days. You know you really don't want to sell it. And besides, there are so few women around here people are starting to talk.

Yes, the wipers should work without the relay. I had a problem with mine for years where I'd have to reach down behind the fuse-relay panel and wiggle the wires to make the wipers turn on. -Eventually took the panel out and found some oxidized/burnt pins. Sure enough one of them was for the wipers and scraping the burnt pins clean fixed the problem. Of course you could have a problem elsewhere as in the wiper stalk switch itself or the motor or connector to it...

For the seats, also make sure the bolts aren't loose or that someone's replaced them with tooo big bolts - they could stick up and interfere with the seat travel along the runners. Get a 200+ pounder to sit in the seat and operate it forward-back if the problem is "just" stuck runners.

Yeah, runners must be stuck - I've even hit them with a bottle jack to break them loose. Once you can get to the 4 bolts and remove the seat, it's a good idea - then you can remove the sliders and thoroughly clean and grease them.

On the wipers - may want to look into the switch itself, on the steering column. These can get gunked up and dirty/corroded, no surprise. However they're fairly easy to pull apart and clean the insides, rather than replace - much cheaper, just don't lose the small pieces. As a matter of fact, that reminds me that I have to do this on my turbo...

Wiper switch contacts are accessible after removing the steering wheel. I just cleaned mine with electronic parts cleaner for an intermittent problem I had. Good as new.

Check that the bolts are clear before getting the 200-pounder in!

My son, 6'2" and probably around 200 lbs tried. I will have to remove the seat, but hey After being under and on top of that car for a week now and reading all of help I have received here over and over and.....My THROW OUT BEARING is quiet and my clutch works Went for a really nice drive tonite! Thanks!

I still have to figure out wipers. Electrical is not easy for me.

And the heater does not blow hot air.

But, the clock keeps perfect time. That amazes me.
