Idle at 850RPM is real lumpy. Engine seems to shake a lot. at 1050-1100RPM it is smooth. Check engine mounts and the look good. Any ideas or should I just set the idle at 1050 |

Have you checked the usual stuff?
Replacing the following really helped smooth out my idle:
air filter
plugs
plug wires
cap
rotor
O2 sensor
You might also try cleaning the injectors.
One other item I did with the tune up stuff was something by CRC by the name of "Guaranteed to Pass." I found it at Autozone. It's a fuel additive that helps remove carbon deposits. Believe it or not, I think this helped the most; my idle has been getting smoother and smoother the more I get through this tank, which has the additive in it. I'm going to run it in all my other cars to see if it makes a difference. _________________ Chris

| hello ripdotcom i had this not so long ago ,i was told ,change the plug leads as they looked old ,so look for signs of cracks on the sliding protective parts of the leads ,they go first and its good indication they are old ,if leads look ok and you know they are not old ,check plug gaps and condition . chris |

What do you mean by checked engine mounts?
The symptoms that you describe sound like the classic bad engine mount/s problem.
Did you measure the height of the engine mounts, or did you just look at them? Porsche specifies a specific minimum height for the engine mounts and if they are lower than the specific height, then they are no good. You usually can't tell if tell are bad just be looking at them, unless you can see that they are torn, or leaking a ton of fluid. |
