Looks like I might have to sell my Beetle cabrio so might get another 924. I previously had an n/a 2.0 litre but would like something quicker. Which would make the better daily driver, an S or a turbo?

I have both, get an S if you want a daily driver.

a 924 S would be a better DD, because there is less to go wrong in them.

a turbo adds complications, it is 24 to27 yrs old, parts are harder to find, theyre pretty cheap for a crap one, not straight forward to get power out of but do-able.

the S is 18-20yrs old, they have their own issues but are generally more reliable, parts are more plentiful because of 944's. Aftermarket parts are more plentiful, more expensive to get power from.

Agreed with everyone said.

If you want to build something fast for not excessively expensive, 924 turbo is the way to go.

If you want a nice daily driver, 924 S is the way to go. You can get it to handle just about as well as you want, more aftermarket for the S since it uses 944 bits, etc. Power is harder to get than with a 931 of course, but really how much power do you need?

Hi, agree with all said, working on the turbo can be a pain, while a good S with a nice engine will be fairly straightforward. (he said!)

Also aim for a the latest model S you can buy as the last model year 88? (at least in the UK) had the same power as the 944 2.5, and yet was cheaper and lighter... (they derestricted it in the last year as the 944 got an upgrade to 2.7 I believe, and previously they hadn't wanted the 924 to have the same amount of power as the more expensive 944)

happy shopping

p.s. as people have kind of suggested, the 924S is more expensive than a turbo, though its a buyers' market!
