PostPosted: Sat Mar 25, 2006 9:28 pm    Post subject: Engine rebuild cost? Reply with quote

I'm thinking of getting my enging rebuilt by this summer. I've decided to keep my car and next year I will be doing alot of driving (freeway) to school etc and my engine is high milliage and 30 years old and I figure its only a matter of time before it blows up.

I looked around and theres 5 shops in my city that are specialized in rebuilding engines I'm going to ask all of them for estimates for a full rebuild.

anyone know what the a rebuild should cost, I'm guessing it would be smart to get a new clutch as well I'm just asking so I don't get ripped off because it's a "porsche"

I'm thinking around $2000-2500 with clutch..... I've no idea really if it cost much more than thet then I probably won't do it.

I have often thought about doing a rebuild on my old Porsche as well.
I know it can be a difficult task finding somebody local while
not breaking the bank account.
Looking back at the archives I got this address near Vancouver. Give them a call for an estimate.

High Performance Engines Ltd.
4329 Buchanan St.
Burnaby,B.C.
604-299-6131

I would prefer to have it done where I live, in Richmond, but I don't mind phoning different places to get an idea of prices.

here I've found A&R Motor Work, C C Racing, Dun-Rite Performance, ED Runzer Costum Rebuilt Engines.

I want it properly rebuilt. Most places give some sort of warranty I think 1 year but obviously if I'm paying all that money I want it to last way more than 1 year.

Have you looked into having a complete rebuilt long block delivered to you from a 924/944 performance company?

You'de be surprised at what you might get for your money.

That still leaves you having to have someone install it, but it would be built by folks that know your engine very well, and you could make some improvements over stock while you are at it, or not.

Just something to think about.

Smooth! hahahah

Tim, maybe this will be your crowning glory, you can rebuild the engine on your own! I think you should look into getting another car first, as this could be a five year project

It would be fun if I coudl try and rebuild the engine myself but it would probably take 1 year and 1,000,000 posts just to get the engine out

In the summer I was thinking of just rebuilding the cylinder head myself, taking it out and getting a shop to rebuild it and installing it myself that would take me a long time for sure but I thought there's no point without rebuilding the rest of the engine.

I thought that's a parts place......they have rebuild 2 l 924 engine in stock and can ship it to you?

sounds like it would cost way more than rebuilding it at a shop. shipping and taxes coming to Canada would probably cost a ton.

Try sales@hausbrauen.com, you too might feel like joining the band wagon after you actually speak to one of us. It has worked for several others here

ok thanks I'll email them. But do you know what the cost usually is?

also after receiving the engine it would cost me at least 600-800 to get it installed and running.... so I would have to add that to the price as well.

unless they have some crazy low prics I think with shipping and taxes it would cost way more.

Timbit I had all of my engine work done at High Performance Engines. It cost $2000 to have everything done including o-ringing the head (which you wont need) and they are VERY knowledgeable.Dont be fooled by the "Porsche specialist" crap. It's the quality of the people doing it that counts.HPE is a father/son buisiness that has been around here for a loooong time and they have a very good reputation. Also they will tell you straight up whats what with your engine and wont try to up-sell you shit you wont need.Make the drive and go talk to Dave, you'll be glad you did.

BTW a Paeco stage 1 engine costs $5200 USD not including shipping or istallation.
Of course it puts out a very reliable 144 hp but is that kind of money worth it ?
