The idle on my 80 931 is up at about 1300 RPM right now, and I want to bring it down where it should be. How worried should I be about adjusting the idle speed back down ONLY if I have a CO meter hooked up?

Not worried at all.

Over the range of engine speeds you're talking about (500 - 1500 rpm), changing the idle speed will have next to no effect on the CO content. Just do it.

Be aware that its not as simple as adjusting the screw on the throttle body.
IIRC the 931 has DITC and EIS.
You may have to talk about it on the 931 forum.

Actually, the 931 got DITC ignition with built-in EIS starting in '81. Same for the 924na - it got TCI-H ignition with seperate EIS starting in '81 (maybe only US/Can cars though). -So, should be no EIS (electronic idle stabilization) or DITC on an '80.
