Hi all

Can anyone advise what my problem is please?

I have a 1986 924S, European build (UK) right hand drive.

When my engine is running and i press the brake pedal, I hear a loud hissing from the passenger footwell. It is the sound of air, a bit like a bicycle pump.

When the engine is off and brake pedal pressed there is no sound.

Looking in the footwell, the sound is coming from the linkage from the pedal, that goes through to the engine bay, and probably to the Servo, its sort of a plunger, again a little like a bicycle pump.

There are no fluid leaks as far as I can see and the brake fluid level is full.

The brakes seemd to be working correctly, I did not drive the car, only edged back and forth testing. The pedal possibly felt a little soft, or spungy.

Any advise greatly appreciated

Sounds like you have at least two problems with the brakes.
One is your brake booster (what you called "servo"?) is leaky. It's powered by engine vacuum (that's why you only hear it leaking when the engine's running). It's the large round part between the brake master cylinder and firewall in the engine compartment.
The other problem - spongy pedal could be air in the brake lines and/or old-worn rubber brake lines (one at each wheel).
Looks like you need a new brake booster + may be time for a full brake job.
