Ok guys, I will check the fule pumps, infact the external is new 4 Months, but hey anything can happen. The retard wire is good and well connected. I don't have a spare ditc, might have to buy a good one, SO IF ANYONE has One please post $. Will remove and test the tem sensor.
Question, does the temp sender on the housing under the Distributr have any significance on this situation?

The air temp sensor at the throttle body could though as I think Paul mentioned. Another possibility is EIS (electronic idle stabilization) - if your idle speed isn't set correctly, EIS will set it for you by altering the timing, so if idle's set too high, EIS would retard the timing (at idle only) to bring the idle speed down. Did you check the timing only at idle? -Or at higher RPMs (2000-2500+) also? A defective air temp sensor would affect the timing at all times (idle, part throttle, full throttle). _________________ "..it's made in Germany. You know the Germans always make good stuff."

I was thinking the problem might be is that the temp sensor is sending false signals to the DITC. If it is sending temps that are higher than actual, at some point the DITC might believe they are critically high enough to reduce the timing drastically.

Make sure the installed external pump is the correct one for 1981 931, ie., Bosch #0.580.254.967 or equivalent replacement. _________________ 1981 931 (Concours)
