So,
I had a carfax check on the 1982 931 I recently purchased and the history showed up as the following:
12/09/1995 6,331 California
Inspection Station
Sacramento, CA
Passed emissions inspection
-----------------------------------
11/11/1997 14,649 California
Inspection Station
Sacramento, CA
Failed emissions inspection
-----------------------------------
11/13/1997 14,688 California
Inspection Station
Sacramento, CA
Passed emissions inspection
-----------------------------------
10/27/1998 22,155 California
Inspection Station
Sacramento, CA
Passed emissions inspection
-----------------------------------
10/24/2000 Vehicle Repair Center
Strawberry Valley, CA
Vehicle serviced
-----------------------------------
10/24/2000 37,704 California
Inspection Station
Strawberry Valley, CA
Passed emissions inspection
What should I make of this? The car has been parked for the last 4 years (apparently five) and it shows 37xxx when I saw it last week. Now did I somehow get lucky and find a 931 with 37k original miles or was the car somewhere else before 1995? The VIN number is WP0AA0936CN150250 . So what is the true history of this car?
Thanks _________________ 1986 944 | 1978 924 (FS) | 1982 931 | 1980 931 |

Well its wierd that the first owners never had it serviced or what not, 37k miles is not much but that could be 137k if it was driven much before 95. With 37k its about 2k miles a year.. which is entirely possible.. _________________ [This Space For Rent] |

A 35k mile 931 would be PRISTINE and probably fetch $5k (or more?). The difference between 35k and 135k should be as obvious as a brick to the head

The car is obviously a 137K car.
Look at the mileage in 1995 6,331. That makes it 487 miles a year over the first 13 years of the cars life. Seems very fishy. Who would start driving a no mile car around?
I bet most segways do more than that! |

If you look at the mileage between smog checks it looks like the car is actually being driven about 8K miles a year.
In 95 it shows 6,XXX miles. The car is an 82, and that makes it about 13 years old by the time the 95 smog check comes up. 13 years old times 8K miles per year is 104K miles.
So by the year 2000, 18 years old times 8K miles per year, total of 144K. Hmm, seems awful close to 137XXX miles, doesn't it?
Coincidence? I don't think so...
Looks like this is a 137K mile car. |

Well, if you think that car went from '82 to '95 with only 6K miles, I have a bridge to sell you. _________________ 1980 924 Turbo |
