I’ve got a ’79 924 and the little gear in the odometer has cracked. I’ve been unsuccessful at finding a replacement that is sold anywhere. They are sold for the 928 & 911 & the later 944 but unfortunately not for the 924, at least that I have found. Does anyone have a good one that they could sell me? I only want to try gluing it as a last resort.
Thanks Mark _________________ 79 924 Sebring |

I used crazy glue to bond 2 halves of a broken gear into one, and it also keeps the gear in the right spot (make sure you have it in the right position after you glue, or you'll just break your gear into 2 like I did)
I would think that could do the same thing, but I haven't driven my car much since I fixed it, so I don't know how long it will hold up for. _________________ '80 931 FOR SALE

Thanks, I'll give Pelican a call. If they don't have one, I guess I'll glue it since nobody seems to have one they could sell me. Thanks again. _________________ 79 924 Sebring |

Thanks all. I'm well aware of all the places this procedure is posted, but I'm more interested in aquiring another gear before I try gluing this one. I'll be calling pelican today.
By the way does anyone have a good odometer gear they could part with.
Thanks. _________________ 79 924 Sebring |

Mark:
Is that for a 160 mph speedo? Or for an 85 mph? I've got one of each, if either would be of any help. The 160 is from a 944, the 85 is the original from my car. I don't know if it even makes a difference? _________________ '80 924 n/a SOLD |

Last night I called Pelican, Tweeks & Porsche Parts Heaven and none of them had the gear alone. The parts heaven place had used speedos but they are not willing to part out the gear alone.
D Hook, It's definitely not the 85mph speedo. I think it goes up to 160???, though I’ll have to check when I get home. I would definitely be interested in the gear if it’s the correct one. I can take a picture of it tonight and shoot it to you in an email. If it looks to you to be the correct one, I’m sure we could strike a deal. Thanks. _________________ 79 924 Sebring |

I can get the different odometer gear for all the different speedos.
I'll have to get a hold of the guy that repaired my Martini speedo when the faces were installed.
I will get a lot of them and make them available to whomever wants one.
Prices should be in the $30 range for new gears but I don't know for sure. _________________ MJ

Found it but would you also be able to email me a pic of where the gear sits in relation to the other gear it drives so I know I got the right one? It sure looks like the correct one but I want to be sure you get the one that you need. _________________ '80 924 n/a SOLD |

Okay, I'm putting this request out there again for a 17 tooth odometer gear for a '79 924.
Two people were nice enough to try and help me out by sending me gears in the mail. Unfortunately the gears were put in regular envelopes and the gears were forced out of the envelopes by the postal services sorting rollers. So I am still looking to buy an odometer gear for my car. Does anyone have one they can part with? If so please let me know.
(This gear should be sent in either a padded envelope or a small box)
Thanks Mark _________________ 79 924 Sebring |
