I hit a large dog at night traveling 70mph with my 1988 924S. The dogs skull hit my car from the extreme front left, denting in my front quarter. I got a can of Bondo, and after several hours of pounding, stretching, bending, bondoing, sanding and priming, I got the original contours perfect! I used Duplicorlor primer and duplicolor paint. The primer worked well, leaving a smooth finish that sanded ok. The paint was terrible. It spattered out of the can leaving large pebbled texture. If It had been a fine mist like it was supposed to be, then I could be done by now, and use rubbing compound to blend the finishes in a week or so.
What I have is a pebble texture that will have to be sanded down and repainted. since my painted area extended several inches beyond the repaired area, I will have to sand off more, and therfore I will have to paint even more on the next time around.

I want to know a brand of paint that will make a nice lasting finish that wont fade, but also will spray (out of a can) with a nice controllable mist, rather than splatterting. If this is impossible I will either have to repalce the panel with a painted one, or strip it entirely and have it compleatly repainted. Please help

I actually dont care how the dog is. I am sure at 70mph I splattered him pretty good. It was pitch black out, and I went home and got my spotlight. When I came back, the body was gone but the blood was there. I would have just as soon shot the sun of a gun with my 45. I have a very small tolerance for things that cause alot of damage to my car and headache to me. I hope whatever iddiot owned it is more responsible with the next one.

Spray can painting is pretty poor, but heating the cans in a coffee can of hot/warm water will help make them spray a little finer mist. If you put enough paint on (which I doubt you did with spray cans) you may be able to just sand down to a smooth finish then buff.

Good luck, I live in a rural area and most of my cars have had possum, cat or coon strike over the years. Thankfully no dogs or deer yet! I would not lose much sleep over the dog, it sounds like he ran into you, not the other way around. If you had not hit it someone else eventually would have. When confronted with an animal suddenly in front of you, it is best to try and avoid any crazy swerves which might lead into a worse tragedy, unless you are the type who places higher value on a dog's life than a persons.

Poor dog, and if I was the owner I'd be mad..... But my dog wouldn't be out in the road at night.

I doesn't really matter if it was dog or not, any animal I'd feel sorry for. I still remember the two deer I've hit this year. Poor things, nothing could be done for them.

sucks even worse for the dog.....

at least it didn't fly through your winshield at 70mph that wouldn't look good.

Timstar has a good point, one thing I worry about in the 924 is hitting a taller animal(deer, large dog) and having it go up over the hood even if it was just standing/running on the ground. But we have good brakes and excellent handling so its easier to avoid than in a truck.

I think he got a bad can of paint its not supposed to splatter
anyway tryin to paint with a can and get results youll like is hard.
you can rattle can then spary a clear with a touch up gun or full
sized gun then cut and buff.

I saw a this guy lifting a deer thst got hit off the road he was
trying to get it in the bed of his truck the deer was still
alive though kicking with its legs it was quite a site.
