Hi all,
I am messing aorund with my 924S and looking on the back of the speedometer there is a device that seems to be some sort of pick up screwed to the back....... is this a 'road speed transducer' to tell the engine ECU how fast the car is travelling? It seems to have two fairly thick wires going to it... one red one green if memory serves correctly. Anyone any ideas?

It's for the (missing) fuel economy gauge...

Curious...... does anyone know how it works then? It looks to me like it has a little device that measure how fast the speedo is rotating through friction, but i dont know what it would be used for. I dont have an economy guage in my 924S either, but then i would expect that to be run off engine vacuum, unless it is a mileage-to-next-fill-up computer. If any one has fiddled with one of these before, i would be very interested to know what it does.

It's Porsches over engineering at work. Instead of using vacuum for a source of miles per gallon info, they designed a system that takes info from the speedo and the DME.

I dunno if all the other connections are there, but certainly on my 'S' there is the pick up and plug on the back of the speedo... so it may all be there.
