That was a good idea (collapsing the roll pin), one guy I know used a hammer and chisel to break the mount. Your way is better and cheaper! |
Thanks.
Believe me, the thought of breaking the mount had crossed my mind...
Once I got it running, I've found tha the power steering pump has lost some fluid. I may have a line to replace, but I haven't put it up on the ramps yet. The chain starts... Did I mention it was against my better judgement to get a car that has sat for an extended period? _________________ '87 924S slushbox (nice tourer)

Here we go again.
The beast ran for two days. Long enough to pass local emissions testing and inspection at least. The following day it wouldn't restart.
I Decided to have it towed to a local sports car guru (since I've got a few family emergencies that have taken up all of my time and money) and he re-gapped the DME sensor for the starting circuit. (The oscilloscope showed a weak signal). Fired right up and off I went.
The next morning (I'm a 3rd shifter) at work it wouldn't start again. Misfiring like it had jumped a tooth on the timing. I stopped right there and called for a pickup. Told the shop to i.d. the problem and I'd take care of the fix if it was an easy one. The shop has had it for the last 3 to 4 weeks "playing with the problem" at odd times. I haven't pushed them hard as I wanted to:
1. Not have it be a priority in his bay. $$$
2. Make sure it was truly "fixed" before taking it out again.
Well, every time they would get a strong signal from the TDC sensor it would fire right up. About 3 to 6 starts later the same cycle would begin all over and it wouldn't restart.
Finally got a call last Friday. IF you whack the Control Box, it starts fine!
So now to source a new (or used) "brain".... It sounds like a bad solder joint or loose wire, so I'll try splitting the box to look for any obvious problems. _________________ '87 924S slushbox (nice tourer)
