|

ok, so I have installed my new torsion bars, to a large swayaway bar. I had the entire rear end out of the car when I changed it.
How exactly do I adjust the height. (turn a bar here turn a bar there) but what is the procedure exactly?
thanks
its an 80 931

ido understand how to change rear ride height on a rgular 924, but my turbo's spring plate is the 5 bolt and therefore I can notremove the spring plate without dropping the entire rear assembly. Is this correct? Thanks _________________ 1980 924 Turbo (in pieces right now, but getting there) almost there

Yes, that is correct. You can adjust height to some degree with the eccentric bolt; beyond that you must remove and reindex the torsoin bars. _________________ Vaughan Scott

Find your Haynes manual (no.:397 '76-'82 924 and turbo). It has the procedure in section 19 on pg. 229 and specs for 22mm and 23.5mm torsion bars on pg. 216. _________________ "..it's made in Germany. You know the Germans always make good stuff."

I have read the manual, and the 911 manual, 924T manual, haynes manual etc. What the manuals say is to take off the spring plate and adjust. But in the 924 turbo - you can not remove the spring plate while the axel is in the car, riis aght? Because the turbo spring plate has 5 mount bolts and the fifth (not on 924 na) is attached to the chasis of the car. right? so I have to remove the axel and adjust on the bench? I did this but calculated a liitle wrong and when I reinstallled the axel the rear end was way too low, actually the rear tire (16 fuch with 225 60) was was hitting the fender, which is already cut away (GT rear fenders) so I will go for it again and this time I know how much to adjust the spring plate angle!!!
----other than the axel removal this process is pretty easy, I had thought it would be very difficult!!
thanks for the help!!

Early 924 cars had holes in the rockers, and the torsion bars could be replaced without dropping the torsion bar carrier. This is the same as early 911 cars.
The torsion bar removal covers were deleted when the rear suspension was changed, and all 924 made after a certain date, and all 931 cars must have the torsion bar carrier dropped from the car to R&R the torsion bars. That is why torsion bar installation is so much more expensive. The car will also need a wheel alignment when you are done with the torsion bars. |
