Should I keep my 924 GT conversion?
Yes, it's great, it'll make you happy and it's not worth selling.

Yes, you won't get much for it, might as well keep it.

Maybe. Weight the cost of selling it and if you can get 5k, then do it.

Perhaps. Will you drive it? Will you have fun in it?

No. It sounds like a money hole, you should sell it for maximum cash.

No. It doesn't seem like you can take another big repair bill, rid yourself of it.

I dunno. That's a hard question to answer.

I think this will be the last Autumn that I'll be on the fence about selling my car in the spring. I bought it for $7,500 and another $1,200 in tax. A few $500 weekends, and even more $1,500 months. It's been off the road this summer for 2/5ths of the year {40% of the summer = off the road}.
When I take the car out in the spring, the car will have a grand total of about $15,000 right on the button, before the spring tune up.
All that needs doing now is general maintenance, tires, wheel reconditioning, perhaps a body paint job {along with some buffing, sanding, dent and a couple of rust repair spots} and the installation of a few interior components I already have.
My question is, what would YOU do?
Put another $1,500- $2,000 into it then a 2-5 thousand dollar paint job? Or sell it for what I can get? $5,000 maybe....
Lizard told me I wasn't allowed to part it out, it's in too good of a condition for that and I don't have the room to take it apart. |

If you have the room to keep it stored properly so it doesn't become a junk car sitting in the rain/ snow for years then keep it.
if you think you'll want to drive it again one day
I don't think It'll sell for 5000 too quick just because its a 924na and most people into the front engine porsches usually go for the 944 and thats around the same price.
if you paid that much for it , then yeah it won't really be worth selling it unless you know that you'll never drive it again and don't need it then getting some money won't be bad. _________________ 78 924 sold.

well i personally wouldn't put 5000+ more into a 924na just because its a 924na and not some high performance exotic super car.
I know everyone says the 944 is so expensive to maintain but with the money you say you have spent you could have bought a really well maintained, low milliage 951 which is way nicer than a cgt look alike _________________ 78 924 sold.

That's what's called specious reasoning, timstar92404. General maintenance on any car usually costs hundreds of dollars a year. Over a number of years, it adds up. Also, with cars this old, you can expect major mechanical components to fail. For example, I've had to replace my fuel pumps and steering arms this year -more than a thousand dollars worth of work alone, not including other general maintenance expenses like tyres, oil changes, etc. Would you suggest that I should send my car my car to the wreckers rather than fix those things? After all, the car's not worth much...
It's true there is a point (and perhaps Neil924 is there) when it all becomes too much.
But it's not always about the money... cars are an expense, not an investment (in 99% of cases, anyway). And it's not always about going fastest in straight line (or quickest through the corners, for that matter)... any beater with a big enough supercharger will be quick enough to make you need new shorts.
It's about what you want. It's about what makes you happy.
Of course, if you simply can't afford it (you listening timstar92404?) then it's a no-brainer... _________________ '80 924 Turbo |
