I turns easy enough, but it requires a bit of force to initiate the turn. No noise from the pump.
Sound like normal operation? Do I need a new pump? The belt isn't slipping. _________________ '87 924S slushbox (nice tourer)

Sounds normal! Porsche doesn't believe in numb steering. _________________ White 87 924S "Ghost"

That's just it. It IS numb until the wheel turns. Almost like it's stuck in the center position and has to work through a notch.
I'm running an '87 VW without power steering that has more feedback than the Porsche... Come to think of it it has a bit more pickup too... _________________ '87 924S slushbox (nice tourer)

Does it stick when the motor is off and you turn the wheel? _________________ White 87 924S "Ghost"

No sticking, just very stiff as you'd expect when the pump is not running. _________________ '87 924S slushbox (nice tourer)

Place the front of the car on stands.
Make sure your fluid is full, then start the motor and turn your wheels from lock to lock about 3 or 4 times. This will bleed any air that may be trapped.
Once you do this (and while the tires are still up in the air) see if it still sticks. _________________ White 87 924S "Ghost"

No change in the feel. BUT NOW....
..... the car is at a local Porsche mechanic. ( I give up!) The ignition started failing yet again. It would fire once when starting, then die. No spark from the coil. There was voltage on the coil, even when turning over, so the ignition switch is ok... When it did run it ran fine, but not much power in comprison to my VW (only 100BHP, but 2100 lbs). Got it emissions tested and it came out fine.
It's now in the hands of someone competent. _________________ '87 924S slushbox (nice tourer)
