|
|
1998 M3 with 50,000 miles, white ext, black leather int, 2 door, 5 speed - dealer serviced and loaded
or
1998 540i with 50,000 miles, black ext, tan leather int, 4 door, 6 speed NOT auto - dealer serviced and loaded.
Also which is the better and more likely deal?
The M3 at $21k Canadian
or
The 540i at $16k Canadian
I'm pretty sure I can buy both car at those prices.
Thanks

this may just come down to functional intent - I have a wife and two kids, so in my scenario I would elect for the 540i - just for the space. However, if it were pre wife and kids, I think the M3 would have my attention.
thats my $.02

| Screw function, which is the better deal? I really won't be racing either car for any long lenght of time, so I don't even know if I'll "use" the whole M3 but it seems like a good deal as does the 5 series.... |

Hmm...this is just a quick, uneducated opinion...but 5-speed vs auto...I'd rather use my left foot _________________ Mike

Lease a new one, that way you get a 4 year warranty that includes all maintenance (at least in the US).

Paul Paul Paul, these words coming from you?! Did the Porsche Gods put you up to this? BE STRONG!
Do you really think I should pay $1,200 per month for a car I won't own and more than double my insurance? |

I've been leasing new cars for decades, if you negotiate them correctly, they are a good deal.
Cars are an expense, not an investment.
In the US, you can lease a new BMW for $400 a month, hell my Boxster is less than $500. |

BTW the insurance on the Boxster costs me $43.35 per month.
The 924S costs $32.59. |

b.) leasing is not for everyone - the general rule of thumb is, if you expect to or don't mind having a car payment, then you ought to consider leasing. Additionally, if you are the type of person who just needs to have the latest and greatest (hence don't mind having a car payment) then its a good chance leasing is right for you.
c.) however, if you're anything like me and most people I know, a car payment is less desireable to have. So buying is going to tend to be the better route.
Personally, I feel that no matter what, buying is better. But as I haev pointed out, each scenario is different.
Paul, I happy for you in that your life style can afford you the luxury to lease. I can't imagine being able to afford $400-$500 a month for car note - must be nice. | Paul wrote: | BTW the insurance on the Boxster costs me $43.35 per month.
The 924S costs $32.59. | definitely can't be full coverage _________________ 924.org (no time to complete)

The M3.I've also been considering one of those,it's a toss up between that or a 2006 MX-5 which i'd add a turbo to later on down the road once the warrenty has run out. _________________ 1979 Euro 931, Olive

| Those prices are for full coverage, the lease requires it on the Boxster. |

The E46 M came out in 2001. I've heard rumors of the new M coming out anywhere between 2007 and 2008.

I'm not trying to say these cars have more problems than other cars, but the cost to maintain them can be expensive especially if you don't have the free maint program/warranty.
Copied that from http://www.hotbimmer.com/
Goto forums and do a search. Or post the question. Seems to be very knowledgeable people there that can give you first hand experience.
My brother-in-law was looking at an M3 then shied away after he did some research. Looks like the Certifed Pre-Owned is the best way to go since it comes w/warranty and these cars had some history of crankshaft problems and rear-end problems, from what I've read on the Hotbimmer.com web site. I have no first hand knowledge myself, only what I've read on the websites.
Good luck. _________________ '80 924 n/a SOLD |
