Do I need to set up the map settings or can I just plug in the advance with the rpm? I have an NA with no tps

Start with something simple like a mechanical advance curve of a Euro NA car. If you have the latest software loaded it will be interpolated so you don't need to spread the bins out so far. You will be working with 10 x 10 tables with MAP sensor on the side and RPM accross the top (or bottem?). Because most all your advancing will take place below 3500rpm spread out the first seven rpm cells between 500rpm and 3500 rpm. Make the last three 4500, 5500 and 6500rpm.

Spread the Kpa cells out from 10 to 100kpa.

Now in the 100kpa row start with 10° advance and work accross the rpm bins up to 34° by the 3500rpm bin. Fill in the 4500-6500rpm bins with the same 34°. Now copy this row into all the other Kpa rows. That it.

If you want to add a little vacume advance then raise the values in the lower Kpa bins. This will give you better fuel milage at cruise.

It would be best to go to the MJLJ site and download the "Basic MAP" I formed and uploaded there. It would work excellent for your application.

Yes, I had to right click the exe and choose -open the file with -"Java"
I'm a little lost . What does the map column do to the left and how does it affect the computers timing?How does it detect load?.
I'm hoping for for an advance curve like this(below). 10 btc might be too much initial for me, but I'm not sure. That is what is great about this software is that you can set more advance and limit the total advance.

1000 1200 1750 2200 2750 3200 3400 4500 5500 6500 rpm
any suggestions about this curve and what the map should look like?

Glad to hear you got the software going! XP can be a little too helpful sometimes.

Your curve looks fine but I wouldn't be afraid to up the initial a bit. I am running 9.5:1 compression and am running a little more aggresive than what you are and I plan to push it a little further when I get the chance.

What you have created is a full "mechanical" advance curve. It would be like running a standard distributor without the vacume advance hooked up. This is where the MAP sensor and the Kpa tables come into effect. I'll assume you have filled in all the Kpa tables (left to right) with the identical numbers you specified in your post(4,9,14,19etc.). I'll also assume your Kpa values range from 10 to 100kpa. You need to think of 100kpa as "full throttle" regardless of actual rpm and 10kpa as extreme vacume only seen with higher rpm and a closed throttle. You car will probably idle at around 30-35kpa and cruise around 35-50kpa. Full throttle will actually depend on your altitude. My car only sees about 85kpa because I am at 3500 feet. Sea level would see 100kpa.

OK, lets assume your car cruises 65mph at 2750rpm and holds 40kpa MAP signal. Go to your 2750rpm column and find the 40kpa bin. Yours should say 24°. Your fuel milage is going to suck at this setting! I personally think this whole column should be up to 30-32° by this rpm but you can play with that later. Just looked at mine and it is 30°. My 40kpa bin is set at 38°. You should easily and safely be able to move yours up 8° too. So set it to 32°.

You now need to "smooth" this out with the rest of the table. First do the whole 2750rpm column. Start with the 30 kpa bin and add 2° to the 40kpa bin. 32°+2°=34°. Remember lower kpa means less load so more timing can be implimented. Now add 2° to the 20kpa then the 10kpa bins. NOw do the oppisite with the 50kpa bin. Subtract 2° for every 10kpa more until you reach 24° again at 80kpa. Leave the 90 and 100kpa alone.

If you take a look at the "Basic MAP" you will see this same pattern emerge but not as aggresive.
