well, time to introduce myself ,
been lurking here for quite some time now
car was in the registry , but i didn't make it to the boards itself
i've been on Pelican for about 2 years now, started hanging out there when i bought my 73 911 S in the summer of 03
bought my 77 euro 924 in november of the same year
the 911 has been in tatters for most of the time since, it's finally getting finished, after a lenghty restoration and expensive engine rebuild
the 924 , allowed me to stay mobile... in a Porsche
i used to have this "it's not a real Porsche" thing when i was growing up
but now that i own one, i'm very happy with it's behaviour.. despite me beeing a crap mechanic, the 924 kept running , and now 2 years later, i'm getting better at wrenching , so does my 924...
this 924 bashing brought me here, so for the record.. anything that came with a Porsche badge from the factory is cool by me
the only thing i don't dig , is replicrap.. that stuff makes baby jezus cry
oh , and engine transplants on 911's.... don't like that much either
on a 924... oh well, it's difficult doing anything powerwise with that stock block... unlike with a 911, where there a watercooled V8 just is wrong...
i still doubt i would ever transplant my 924 though... it's sufficient for my daily driving needs...
this is the right side, the rust holes are on the left side
it'll get a respray eventually , i think , right now , i'm still recovering from the 911's TELC... the E stands for expensive... i'm quite poor at the moment _________________ Stijn Vandamme

Hi Stijn.
Respray? Your 924 looks nice and clean to me, so does the 911 (from what you can see in the dark photo).
It's reassuring that someone who owns a 911 can also appreciate the merits of the 924. Gives the lie to all the snobs out there.
If you don't want the V8 the 911, stick it in the 924! _________________ 1985 Porsche 924 'Lux', Kalahari Beige (my ex)

well, it's not as nice and clean on the left side , i have to choose my pics carefully
LOL
got a 2 inch rust spot on near the antenna
and my left door has acne as well , the paint is faded so i can't colour match spray cans , the clear coat is just ... gone
it's not like i can readely find body panels in that colour
as far as i know , there's only 1 924 in the same colour and one 944 (in holland that is )
that other 924 came up for sale, 250 euro with a busted engine, a 1980
but when i asked for pictures , the guy didn't come back to me, i guess it's sold by now, so i guess i'll have to respray in once my finances are a bit better _________________ Stijn Vandamme

| This is a heads up for you guys. One of the Pelicanites has turned on the major contributing asshole over there onto your Board. If he shows up over here you have no defense against him. He will run you right into the ground so you guys better be afraid you hear. It is rumored that every Board he has ever been on has kicked him off. I even heard that he nearly destroyed the Early 911 Registry Board, and after he was done with the R Gruppe nobody would even come near them. So guys just be carefull and keep your ears glued to the wind for this guy. He is bad news, I tell you. |

I too am a member of Pelican and I would not get too excited about the relative few who ripped on 924's over there. I personally like all Porsche badged cars along with VW's and Bimmers. I have a 911 SC which I truly love, but my 951 can rip it up in just about every aspect. Who cares?!!
A stock new Honda Accord family car can rip up quite a few 80's sports cars. Who cares?!!!
Fussing with P'cars is an enjoyable hobby for me and I like em all. _________________ Tim Hancock

Thanks for the warning Will.
I figured SoCal's style was not representative of everyone on Pelican. It's pretty funny that he's got a bad reputation on many boards.
I agree with Tim, my 924 gets spanked by most cars on the road, but it's still fun to wrench on during a summer weekend... _________________ 1987 951 - M193 Version for Japan |

Thanks for the warning, but I think you underestimate our abilities to a) defend ourselves by shedding unwanted noise, and b) ridicule, belittle, and just generally ignore wandering fools (with small thingys).
As I said over there, we've always been happy to have a much higher signal-to-noise ratio here than most automotive boards, not to mention a much tighter community in many regards. One wandering moron hasn't stopped us previously (and there have been a number), so this would be just one more to throw on the pile of bodies (and banned IPs).
On with your regularly scheduled 924-ing... _________________ Vaughan Scott

Sad. The original thread had a glimmer of approaching a fact-based discussion... this new thread has nothing. I, for one, won't be elevating it to the level of discussion... _________________ Vaughan Scott

on the subject of copying car designs, did anyone else notice that the 350Z looks A LOT like a new 911? I had a picture once of the two overlaid on each other and they are almost identical. _________________ 1987 924S Guards Red
