thats so confusing...... ford owns aston martin and mazda.

what does owning the company do? I don't think ford takes any part in designing aston martin or mazda or using ford parts in mazda or aston martin etc.

More money? why own 1 company when you can buy an already made company not setup anything not design anything and just let them work on their own and in your spare time make 2x the money?

PROFIT We live in a capitalist society Tim, so money controls practically everything. Bigger company's prey on the smaller ones - when they are week, or when they are showing promise. Buy em out when they are weakened, invest a little, and turn them around - i.e. Land Rover. Buy them when they are showing promise, i.e. Aston Martin (for racing - notice how more and more Astons are wining races that have been dominated by Corvettes and Porsches?)

This is what sometimes bothers me so $%^%#&# much:

I wish our human nature would just be satisfied with a good thing and not be so damn tempted to make something that is awesome, more awesome. Why can't we be satisfied with a good thing - why do we always have to "try" (operative word is try) to make things better. I sware, I hope the guys/gals at Porsche don't reduce themselves to actions resulting from greed or desperation.

I'd rather see Porsche close its doors than be bought out. I mean just research at all the classic/vintage automakers that have gone out with respect. I know manufacturers learned alot when Crysler bought Maserati - but still - don't even tease me with the possibility.

BTW, my hole position on this (now that I'm off my soap box) originated from the Chrysler/Maserati merge. I worked at a Chrysler dealership when that happened and I got to drive one of the first Chrysler Maserati POSes shipped - and POS is an understatement - talk about vicariously living through another brand name . . . . I'm done - no one wants to read this $hit anyway!

I already think porsches image is ruined alot now with the cayenne.

before porsche was just the name for a sports car mostly referring to the 911 now porsche could be a big ass 911 looking suv that old ladies drive to the groccery store.

yeah I have seen an older lady driving a cayenne to get grocceries.

the cayenne is actually pretty popular here I see them all the time.

The Ford Focus, Mazda 3 and Vovlo S40 all share the same platform. So same basic concepts and major sub assemblies.

The new jags will share a lot with the new astons martins.

Is all about spreading hte development cost of the vehicles over
as high a volume as you can.

Sorry to say, but I'm almost positive that Fiat is owned by Ford. Along with Jaguar that I'm actually quite fond of. Before I bought my 924 I was looking at a Fiat Turbo and a Jaguar XJ12.

Ford do not own fiat, GM owned a large stake in Fiat, up until recently, when they were forced to buy themselves out of a buy-out clause they stupidly signed onto a while back. So Fiat is on their own at the moment, however they do own Lancia, Alfa Romeo, Masarati and Ferrari.

Yea, that makes sense, I knew they owned all those Italian companies, but I really thought Ford at least had a piece of them. Oh well, can't be right every time.

"shares in Porsche were down by 8.9% at 618.50 euros. VW fell initially, but recovered to trade 1.8% higher at 52.45 euros."

618.50 per share? Holy crap.

sorry, thanks for the correction - its the later part of the statement that urks me - "preparation for takeover" - errr I hate the concept but understand the economics behind the idea.

The report I read from the Guardian said that Porsche bought the 20% of VW to effectively stop VW being a take-over target for the "Anglo-American locusts".

Apparently VW owns 13% of it's own stock and 20% is owned by another German group so Porsche's 20% will keep VW German.

Porsche paid cash for the shares so business must be good.

For a few years I sold Fords (sorry guys) about the only difference in the Ranger and the B series Mazda truck was that Mazda had a better warranty. The Escort and the Protege were the same except for minor body differences and Probe was made for Ford by Mazda.

(I don't know how to quote from a previous page but Khal said) "Porsche bought a fifth of VW... "

I feel good if I can by a fifth of VO.

Cheers

have you ever driver a cayenne? It's quite pleasant to drive. They sell a lot of cayenne here. I beleive that sometimes, companies have to sell a "high volume" product to give them the incomes they need to work on other projets that are, maybe, less profitable.
