I had a camshaft reground by Schneider to a mild street profile. Schneider told me I would need .070" shims to compensate, but 924s don't use shims, they use adjuster screws that come in different sizes. The Haines manual mentions the 4 different sized adjuster screws but not the dimensions, just the fact that the more lines on them, the thicker they are. I know I need thicker than stock to adjust the tappet up .070", but how do I figure out which size to use?

If you lift out the tappet and turn it upside down you will see there is a center hole in which the adjuster screw sits.... you can get small circular shims to fit in this hole with the screw so that adjustment slack is taken up...
or go searching for another adjustment screw...
ask joe danka (joes924) as he had his reground from schnieder and used shims IIRC...

any ideas on where to get the adjusters / shims? The local porsche parts place had two old #2 adjusters in their inventory and that's all. They were going to ask the dealership but I'm not expecting anything.

what shape is the valve adjustment in now, probly just a couple valaves that cant be adjusted anyhow thats how mine was I should be able to help with a couple of high numbered adjusters if thats all you need. Now its best to have the adjusters only about half to 3/4 in though you probly know more about how your setup is than me.

it isn't an extreme racing grind, just a street grind. Schneider told me I would have to get .070" more adjustment from the screws. I have not tried to see if I can adjust the stock screws that much.

yea I got the same cam a couple years ago ..still loven it man.
with a highly ported and polished head weber single throat
throttle bodya after market header n full flow exhaust,
msd ignition, blaster coil, some fat 8.5mm plug wires,
bosch super r6 945 plugs with the gap opened up
car feels pretty good opening it up at any rpm.
You might be able toget the valves set Iwas ablto
by swtchin around and adding a couple thicker
adjusters.

do you have a couple of #2s? I already have a couple. I'm going to try with those, but I figure probably only the intake valves would need them..

I'm not planning to do anything fancy other than the cam. The exhaust manifold sounds like it has a hole in it and I might end up having to put free flow headers on it, but that's about all.
