I have a '82 924 with the automatic tranny. Everything is disconnected on the motor, except the splined shaft will not come out of the flywheel. I have taken the bell housing inspection cover off and loosened the square block on the shaft. What else am i missing??? I just dont want to break the splined shaft. Any ideas please let me know.

Three cracks in the head, 3 bent valves and one holy piston, this is reason for the motor change.

There's a e clip on the end of the input shaft, it must be removed before you can slide the damper off of the input shaft.

Do a search on e clip

Paul thanks for the info. My Haynes book does not say all that, I read the post and I understand now. After looking at the rubber damper over half of it is gone.. sounds like a bad thing $$$$.. I guess I will search for one of those next.

The heads cracked from overheating, on the #2 cylinder a quarter size diamater piece of metal from head between the plug and valve is gone, it went through bottom end, looks like the maybe the broken piece played ping pong between valve only way I can see they got bent. My conclusion a nice boat anchor on the whole mess
