Hey all,

This is kind of a question for anyone who may have seen the 924 Factory manuals before. I have found a person willing to sell a set of Factory Manuals that he states are for 1976 - 1981 model years. Would it still be worth picking them up (will they work) for a 1982 924 NA? I would really like some factory manuals but this is the first set I have been able to find. Just don't want to buy them to find they will not work for my 1982 model. Thanks in advance for any info you all can provide.

Robert,

Officially there is only (1) Factory Service Workshop Manual.

Since the Factory Manual was first offered for sale, there has only been (1) part number as far as I know. The original manual was not complete when first offered, and only came with two binders. The Factory always planned on adding in the missing material, and adding on to the manual set as each production model year brought changes to the cars features.

The 3rd and 4th volume binders were added to the Manual Set in Supplement 6, 7, or 8 (I don't remember which), at which time the contents of the original volumes #1 and #2 were split, and combined with the new pages that came with the additional binders.

The additional information was bundled by the factory into what they call Supplements. There are about 23 Supplements to the 924 workshop manuals. As the Supplements were introduced, they were added to the Workshop manual sets being produced, and often added to the manual sets which were in Dealer Parts Inventories when the Supplements were introduced.

There should be a Supplement Log/History List as the first pages of Volume 1. But the list is often not up to date. It is faster and more reliable to check the page information that in printed on the bottom of each page. The information includes the section and page number, along with the date/age information of the page that tells whether the page was original, or a replacement or additional page added, and in what Supplement it came.

The 82 model year brought changes to the front swaybar setup, and the ventilation system. Even if the Workshop Manual Set that you are looking at does not have the Supplement pages that detail these changes (and the 82 wiring diagram) it will still be of great use to use. And you can check to see what other Supplements are inserted, or missing and either buy the missing Supplements from a Porsche Dealer, or find out if a Board Member would be willing to copy them for you.

You could also buy the Workshop Manual set of Microfiche (it used to cost less than $30 (I don;t know what the current cost is), and print the missing pages yourself if are are missing any Supplements.

Several people have remarked that it appears that new copies of the Workshop Manual, either are not available temporarily, or that Porsche is working to make a new printer run at this time.

Ask the guy that has the manuals for sale what color the binder covers are. Older manual sets have red binders, and the new ones have gray binders. There should be four binders. If there are only two, then the set is very incolmplete. They should be four ring binders with a hole on the spine (part that faces out) to allow you to grip the volume with a finger and pull it off a shelf. If the guy tells you that the manuals are in a three ring binder, it's a photocopy, and not worth buying. Same thing if there isn't a "gripper" hole in the spine.
