Other boards have an eBay policy, do we need one? _________________ White 87 924S "Ghost"

Don't see a problem with anyone posting links to ebay stuff. If you're not interested, don't read the post or follow the links. _________________ TJ

I noticed someone got blasted on another board for posting an item that another member was bidding on. That board has a policy against it.
In most cases when I recognize one of us is bidding on something, I have decided not to compete. _________________ White 87 924S "Ghost"

The UK board allows members to notify/post that they are bidding on an item so as not to drive the price up. _________________ Porsche 924 1984 (UK import) NA

Soley posted for interest or infrequency of parts etc... any post directly for selling purposes should be posted into the Parts for sale section.....
I don't think we have had any problems so far with gratuitous abuse of this...
Just like if (the poster) was to abuse this board it in my mind would recieve posting attached like .... 50th time I had to read this e-Xam Xlectric Xupercharger for sale post can you please get stuffed allready....??
My vote is to allow posting of anything, flaming you name it, but keep it factual and non physically threatening in any way... It would do the board and society an injustice in sensoring material....
Anyway you can always place a vote to the board.....opps
Thanks for not mentioning big brother moderators though....not that I care you guys nowing my waist/chest measurements _________________ 1981 ROW 924 Turbo -

If anything, there should be a TOPIC (not section) called "Post e-bay Auctions Here". Its not worth dedicateing a whole section, but it would be nice to consolidate/control them. _________________ 924.org (no time to complete)

The reason for the policy on the other board, is member "A" finds a sweet deal on eBay and places a bid.
Member "B" notices the auction and even though he isn't interested enough to bid, he posts a note on the board telling everyone about the auction.
Members "C" through "Z" who would have never known about the auction, now place bids and drive the price through the roof.
Member "A" is pissed. _________________ White 87 924S "Ghost"

I'm really torn on this one. I like to see people get a good deal and I hate to see parts thrown away because no one knows about the auctions.
But I don't know if a policy would help. You need enforcment. You need consequences. This board is pretty laid back compared to others and I don't know if we need to put in place something that would have to be moderated almost daily.
There seems to be a gentlemen's agreement here that works pretty well. Most seem to use good judgement when it comes to ebay postings. My rule of thumb is to not post it if I see someone has already placed a bid, whether I know who it is or not. But if there's no bids and it looks like it would be of benefit to someone who's recently posted a need for it, I may post it or at least pm the poster so he/she knows there's one available, just to try to help out.
I'm assuming most of us do our own daily (or so) searches of ebay parts so I assume most of us already know what's available there.
Good question Paul. _________________ '80 924 n/a SOLD |

We are all big boys and girls and if you are looking for an item you know where to look. All of us want a bargain. I would keep the listings off this site.
I cannot tell you how many times I have seen items for sale well above the cost of buying the item retail. _________________ "Never let them see you sweat"

There seems to be something fundamentally wrong with banning free speech and competition. _________________ 1982 924 n/a |

Perhaps the word "ban" is too harsh. All that may be needed is a policy that we agree to use. (Much like the one we use concerning foul language.)
I have been "member B" a few times without ever thinking that it might offend someone. _________________ White 87 924S "Ghost"

If I see somthing on eBay that is rare or I know someone was looking for I will post the link. I did it a day ago. I didn't think about running the bids up. If someone responded to my thread and said "Thanks for the notice, I'm bidding on that." I waould assume that other members, would either back off and not bid, or if they really need it, then they would bid.
If someone wants meto stop posting ebay links, post a reply now and I'll stop with no hard feelings.
Of course none of those links belong to me as I don't have a parts car yet.

I'm in the "it's all good" camp.
We're such a small group and it seems to me that most here, if not all, would bend over backwards to help rather than hinder.
Can't see a problem with it myself. _________________ '80 924 Turbo |

Yea I agree with Khal. Often when people do post ebay auctions here, other posters will ask who wants the item before bidding which is nice. _________________ 1979 931 with a 350 chev
