Well about 5 months ago I bought 2 non-running 924's off my friend for $150. The parts one got towed (thanks to another friend..) but the project one is coming along pretty well.
Everything was done at home including the engine rebuild, paint job, and install. I have yet to wetsand the paint and buff it to a nice shine, which I won't do until the thing runs..
All I have left now is to connect the alternator & starter wiring, connect the vacuum hoses and the coolant hoses and it should be ready to go! Hopefully I'll be driving my first Porsche in a week or so.
Thanks to everyone who helped answer my questions. Here's a little "timeline" pic:

well done! I've got to say that the green highlights are an interesting choice.
Make sure you post some pics of the final product. _________________ 1979 924 (Gone to a better place)

I see you have a vari-cam on your engine. Have you ever tried changing the settings on it? _________________ '80 924 n/a SOLD |

Looks awesome! One suggestion though, ditch that Fram filter and get a good OEM filter, you can get them for cheap through any VW dealer, same part as an old 8v oil filter. _________________ '81 931 in various states of assembly |

yah i picked up a better oil filter
yes I foudn the cam gear at the junkyard got it for about 10 bucks, I haven't even gotten the engine started yet, so I have yet to try it
i do have a problem though,
i think i might have a dead starter? coz when i try to crank it nothing happens, just a clicking sound. I dont know if I have it wired correctly (the starter), I shoudl thoguh, I followed very closely the wiring diagrams from the pelican parts webpage. If anybody knows about the starter wiring, that would be great jut so I can make sure. I'm also missing a couple relays frmo the fuse board, would that affect it? Hopefully I can just replcae the starter if it really is bad. |

Haha, I'm just the man to talk to about that. First things first, check your battery, it's probably dead. Seconds things second, make up some new engine grounds, I grounded my engine directly to the battery, bolted the cable to one of the intake manifold studs. I found the original engine ground I had wasn't getting a good connection no matter what I did. _________________ '81 931 in various states of assembly |
