Will this muffler fit?

I'm getting my exhaust piping and gaskets all replaced and I want to bring my own muffler.

my current one is a bit too loud for me (flowmaster 40 with no cat), good quality muffler but I don't think it sounds great on a 4cyl.


Cbass on this site recommended the "cherry bomb turbo" from canadian tire. I was buying oil there today and they have them on sale for only 28 bucks (from 39) so it sounds like a good deal. the guy there said that was probably the quietest performance muffler (compared to flowmaster, dynomax etc and its way cheaper).



they are all the same length / diameter just the I.D is dfferent.


they have the 2", 2.25 " and 2.5 " I.D

which one would be best ? I think my muffler is a 2.25 " but I'm not 100% sure.


the body lenght is 14 " , total lenght is 18".


and it says 4.5 x 9.75 " oval



also anyone know if this would be noticably quieter than my flowmaster 40 series?

oh yeah one more thing, I hate the popping and exploding noises that my muffler produces when i let go of the gas, it goes pop pop pop pop and it gets really annoying and sounds like a redneck mobile.

I looked at the reviews for the cherry bomb turbo and people have stated that it pops and makes backfiring sounds when you let go of the gas just like my flowmaster.

gotta love those popping flowmaster sounds. I have a flowmaster also. do you still have the resonator on your car or did you remove that? My resonator is gone.

A cherry bomb turbo with offset inlet/outlet will fit, and doesn't perform too badly. There are much better mufflers out there, but it'll flow fine, maybe a little bit better than the OEM muffler did.

You'll need a shop to weld the hangers onto it and fit it, etc. CB turbos are a decent choice if you're looking for a replacement muffler that isn't a complete flow restriction. A Dynomax Turbo(Sonic turbo, now branded Dynomax) is a better choice, but it's not $28 at a local store

Go with the 2.25" inlet Cherry Bomb Turbo.

The 924 has what's called a decelleration valve, it works by bypassing the throttle body I think, and prevents the popping noises. check to see if you have one, it should be bolted to the intake manifold opposite of the throttle body, with two large vacuum hoses and a small one on the bottom.

what is the sound level like on this muffler?


with no cat and resonator. would it be quieter and sound better than my 40 series muffler?

I'm not really sure on the sound / noise of these mufflers because they are so cheap.

What?! I love the burble on the overrun! Sounds like a racing car!

Sounds kinda crappy if it's high and tinny sounding. But nice, deep burble on a trailing throttle is pure music to my ears. My car does it

I've just got a mild glasspack on mine, I love how smooth it sounds, no popping all they way up. I heard a 911SC blipping around in a parking lot and realized that my car sounds a lot like that one did at lower rpms, that sorta low smooth growl...ahhh I love it Can't wait to drive to class today.

Nice "burbles" would be normal but the backfiring you seem to be describing is probably due to the leaks in the rest of your exaust system. Once these are taken care of I think you will like the "burble".

It'll be quieter than the flowmaster, and flow better as well, but it's not going to be OEM quiet. The cat does a lot for reducing sound, it makes an eash 10db difference.

If you really want it to be quiet, pick up an oldschool cherry bomb glasspack or two, and use them inline before the final muffler. that'll be a really quiet and still decent flowing setup, although it'll be a bit heavy. The upside is, all the weight will be in the centre of the car at the very bottom, so it'll make the car handle a little sweeter.
