Guy's,
I know most of the people on this board are in the USA. I would just like to say that i hope you are all safe and well at this time. From what we are seeing over here with whats going on in New Orleans, it looks frightening.
All the Best,
Steve |

Last we heard from CMXXXI was back in June, which is a bit unusual. He was a regular until then. If still in Vicksburg, Mississippi, he'd be close to the Mississippi River, about 120-130 miles north of New Orleans.
Another guy recently moved I think from California to Alabama, so he might have been affected.
The rest of us are seeing kookie gas prices. I heard it's over $6/gallon in the Atlanta area. It's >$3/gal here in New Jersey. _________________ "..it's made in Germany. You know the Germans always make good stuff."

man i dont even want to hear about hurricane katrina. I live in houston texas, 25000 people have already been bussed from new orleans here. In case you didnt know, Louisiana's laws are way different from any other state in the US. Its all corrupt, 70 percent of those people are on welfare. Now they're all up in my city, in our Astrodome, with guns, raping people, running the streets. I dunno. We gotta do something with them, but shit, I dont want all those extra people in Houston, we're big enough already. Not to mention they're gonna take our jobs. Do you think theyre going to move back? Hell no. I hate hurricane katrina. _________________ 1988 924s |

Ha Ha Neil, you really should move west my man.Beautiful weather,semi-nude chicks everywhere and the streets are paved with fresh Sockeye, you gotta love summer left coast style.
don't
Yeah Chasoncows,it would surely suck to live in Houston these days.I can't imagine that many people just showing up and demanding to be taken care of.Man there are some pretty cranky folks on CNN asking where the hell all of the federal help is,wheres the food, wheres the medicine etc. What i'd like to ask THEM is why the ^%#&* didn't they leave BEFORE the crap hit the fan! Oh wait, what was that ? If someone told me that there were 160 mph winds on the way and i'm living in a town 9 ft. below sea level....,well it doesn't take a rocket scientist to know this would be a good time to visit relatives in another state, like maybe Kansas or Utah,California is kinda nice,or come to Canada, hell i'll buy you a real beer and you can sleep on my couch.
Gotta say i've sure got alot of respect for the mayor of NewOrleans though speaking his mind, reminds me of Alberta's Ralf Klien, very down to earth in a practical sort of way, seems to cut right through the usual political BS. _________________ 1979 Euro 931, Olive

I doubt you have to worry about them taking your jobs if 70% are on welfare. Why work?
What surprised me was when I heard that over 60% of the police force turned in their badges! _________________ '80 924 n/a SOLD |

A lot of wild opinions flying around out there. I'll just wait for the 'court transcripts' to come out and then I'll put together an opinion.
Very tragic, though.

Very tragic indeed.
Don't we have board members in the area? Hope they're okay. _________________ '80 924 n/a SOLD |

Let's see:
Their homes are under water
Bands of roving gun toting gangs that might threaten their families.
No gas for the squad car
No A/C when not in squad car.
Little chance of backup from other cops in the same situation.
The need to violate the very laws they swore to uphold.
Oh and BTW, Donut shops closed |

i think one official put it best, i dont know who it was, but he said "The first three days was a natural disaster, everything after that was a man made one."
In comparison with Hurricane andrew, the response and aide for Katrina was/is over 75% Slower...
The emergency plans that were in place were some of the worst ive ever read, despite the fact there was a long list of studies telling them almost exactly what would happen, and they were pretty darn accurate. The plans they drafted, at least for new orleans, were simply not actionable, didnt tell the authorites how to carry it out, or where to find the means to do so. as a result the resource utilization was horrible and ineffective.
It may sound hard, but in my opinion, they should of by passed new orleans and went straight to the surrounding areas and save those citizens first. instead, many of those good people died waiting , and still are dying, because weve got to fight our way around new orleans and its tieing up valuable resouces needed elsewhere. the afflicted area is the size of Great Britain, with a population of over 3 million people, and we waste our resources on a single city because the majority of the residents were too stupid to heed the warnings, and fill some bottles with water before the storm. It distgusts me when i see so many apparently able bodied people complaining because theres no a/c, or complaining because they didnt get their public assistance checks (what the heck do they plan on spending it on right now anyhow? it certainly isnt going to be room and board, were giving that to them..)
I am not completely heartless on this point, i know there are many good people in N/O who have suffered greatly, but their situation is the same as millions of others, and it seems very simple common sense that you must prioritize and get to as many people as fast as possible, which would put that city way down on the list as far im concerned.
I think the bottom line is that when something like this happens, people are responsible for their own survival and must be prepared. You cant stop your home from flooding, or falling down around you, but you can have food and water and tools to help you make it throught the aftermath, even poor people can do this. everyone can fill some containers with water, and gather some things together in a watertight bundle to sustain them a few days (i can go months with i have in the house if need be, and it didnt take allot to build a stock of supplies.) Depending on government agencies to save you , is a recipe for disaster, and I think that is abundantly clear of late, and very , very sad... _________________ Eric

Here is the point. There are people in need. I don't care if they were on welfare, and if they didn't get out in time, and if some of them are now shooting at police and firemen. People are in need, and the initial response was totally inadequate. Now, things are finally starting to get going. I hope you all gave something for katrina relief. _________________ 1980 924 Turbo |
