Nice car. Congrats.
For the pinging - you should find a single wire connector laying on the left wheel well in the engine compartment. On DITC equipped cars, unplugging that connector retards the spark by 7 degrees to prevent knock when you're using low octane fuel.
Water or water/alcohol injection also serves as a very effective anti-detonant. It helps by cooling the charge air some, but more importantly, the steam acts as an anti-detonant. _________________ "..it's made in Germany. You know the Germans always make good stuff."

Very nice car tennster!
Smooth, would it be ok to run a switch to that wire? So that if you had a knock sensor, you could just flip the switch in the cabin and it would retard the timing and youd be ok, or is that connecter not on all 931's? _________________ [This Space For Rent] |

The connector should be there for all 931's with DITC ('81-up). _________________ "..it's made in Germany. You know the Germans always make good stuff."

again beaut of a car you have,
I think that you will find the 924board, abit more technical and imo better laid out than rennlist. so welcome. _________________ 3 928s, |

The Carrera GT was designed for at least 98 octane fuel. I suggest you use the highest octane fuel you can find in Thailand.
I use 100 octane unleaded permanently, and as I have posted before, I have pinging on full boost also. Mine is totally stock (apart from the engine rebuild...). In the end I discovered that the cam timing is half a tooth out (head has been skimmed by previous owner). The only way to bring the timing back to specs is with an adjustable cam pulley and this is what I have on order from England. I did also find that if I was using the A/C continuously, there was no pinging, maybe something to do with the fan blowing the hot air away from the air intake. These are just my observations.
Smoothie helped me out in the past with this issue (thanks), you cannot adjust the ignition timing from the distributor. Pulling the ignition retard plug is a good idea to protect the engine (important, even if you do lose some performance), I did this on mine and found that off boost low down it was very sluggish, but the pinging stopped.
BTW, fantastic car. Here in Europe, 937's are very collectable.

Arthur, as stated in his posts on rennlist the highest octane avalible there is 95 RON, some are suggesting that he use tolulene to bring it up _________________ 3 928s, |

| ok, i think i got it. i disconnect that wire and the now it retards the spark by 7 degree, and you don't have to adjust anything. |

Tennster, you are correct you unplug that and that is all you need to do, no need to adjust anything else _________________ 3 928s, |

update,
i unplug the wire (brown one i think) yesterday. fill it up with 95 ron about 45 liters. take it for a drive last night, So far no pinging, let's wait and see the next fill up. Lost a little performance i think but that's fine as long as the engine doesn't blow up!
thanks a million!!! |
