Seems like a good price and I now have a Manifold leak on #4, which is overheating my starter. I’m not racing but everyday driver and don't want to be annoyingly loud but would like a little performance boost.
It’s Time for a header. _________________ 1978 924 95 mile daily driver.

I put a Bursch on a long time ago and after a short while it fell apart.
Get in touch with Stahl headers in York PA. Much better quality. I think they made them originally for Holbert. _________________ "Never let them see you sweat"

An everyday driver will not see a performance boost. The stock setup is a 'tri-y' and works very well. Plus it will last longer and put less heat under the hood whereas the headers are particularly hard on alternator and starter.
However, if you must, Vince has directed you to the best. MSDS also does has headers http://www.msdsinc.com/exhaust_1.htm which I have used succesfully on several cars. _________________ John

Depending on the header, it can provide a definate boost for low end torque around town. A well designed header with a merge collector will show definate torque gains across the entire RPM band over the same header with a regular collector, when the header is not a restriction.
That being said, OEM gaskets are about $1.50 a piece, and $8 for the manifold/downpipe connection. I went over the pieces with a die grinder when I had them off the car, as the welding at the flange for the downpipe was quite obtrusive, took me about 20 mins with a carbide bit to get it smooth and round. The cast manifold itself didn't need too much cleanup, but it could have stood getting sandblasted with an abrasive media for a couple minutes... _________________ '81 931 in various states of assembly |

I've had two bursch headers on my na 924.
The first cracked the #3 pipe about 2" from the exit of the head. Fatigue? Too lean heat? Beats me.
The second I had jet-hot coated before I put it on. Its been on the car since 95 and looks *perfect* even after thousands of race miles. Never had a problem. Also, the creamic coating reduces the under-hood heat. Best $150 I've spent on that car.
For the street? I've always had my bursch connected to a straight pipe and a supertrapp. "Ear splitting" comes to mind as the sound levels are pretty intolerable and would be unacceptable for the street. (...although I DO so enjoy taunting my neighbor's hounds by blasting by their house, full on, with the diffuser disks off the supertrapp )
I have run with a dyna flow muffler with this setup for Lime Rock and that does tame the noise considerably -- easily to street level.
As for what it does to the power, I really don't have much of a feel for that becuase I've never run the car without it. I can say that it is one of the fastest 924's out there but there are so many other factors that the header would only really be a small part of the picture. |

After reading these posts, I'll save my money toward some new tires. Thanks to all. _________________ 1978 924 95 mile daily driver.

I'm getting an entire new exhuast built but I'm probably going to keep my exhaust manifold if it is not cracked and leaking probably just needs new gaskets put on. _________________ 78 924 sold.
