I know this is a really dumb question, but when draining coolant from the radiator, should the front of the car be on jack stands or not? It doesn't mention raising the car in Haynes so I figure it isn't supposed to be raised? If not, would it help to raise the rear...so the fluid would be more likely to flow toward the front of the car?
Thanks, _________________ Rob

Doesn't matter so long as your car isn't on an incline to much.
Remove the filler cap on the expansion tank and then remove the bolt in the lower right corner of the radiator and drain.
Then flush with some water before refilling.
Gravity will do all the work for you... as the lower drain point is well below the block.
Then bleed the air out when at operating temperatures

In my experience bleeding the air out is more difficult than draining. Any tricks to successfully bleeding it without leaving air pockets somewhere?

when the readiator plug is off I shook my car side to side and got much more fluid coming out. still some fluid remains in the engine.
I just flushed it twice the second time with water. I also used some dish washing detergent. I had mud and sand in my cooling sytem now my collant looks cleaner... _________________ 78 924 sold.

you are suppose to remove that red air bleeder plug on the coolant pipe to bleed out the air. but you have ot watch out or you'll get collant all over the engine like me.... _________________ 78 924 sold.

Remove the bolt first, then the cap of the tank, this way it starts to come slowly, and when you remove the cap and let the air in then starts the waterfall.
It worked cleaner for me |
