Does anyone have factory fitted foglights under the front bumper? Rare option I know.

If so, I would appreciate some pics of the lights themselves and of the mounting brackets

I'd like to know how they work too. Are they worth having on there? Do they really help vision at night or are they not needed that much?

I have only ever seen them on the US models as the euro models have them built into the bumper,
imo they really dont look all that great, however all the US bumpers I have seen already had the mounting hole in them, and you can install any foglight you do so desire. and light technology has come along way in the past few years

The lights mounted in the front bumper on Euro cars are driving lights that come on simultaneously with high beam and are also used for flashing the headlights when the pods are down.

Porsche used to provide an installation kit (477 941 903A) for fitting under bumper fog lamps to Euro cars. This included the lamps/brackets/2stage switch for activation(left of cig lighter)/wiring loom. Of course this kit is NLA. however as I am looking at fitting fog lights, I would like to do it "properly" making sure that the lamp assemblies are at least shaped similarly to the originals and which I suspect were Hella/Bosch

On the Euro cars, they were not mounted under the bumper but on the lower front panel which has the holes pre-drilled

Fog lights are useful at night on roads without street lightning as they light up the edge of the road, very common here....

Good foglights can be very helpful when it's actually foggy, and even more useful when aimed as cornering lights (sornering lights are aimed slightly outwards so you can see more of the ground to the outside of where you are is aimed).

924s have the basic wiring connections already in the main harness under the dashboard, so adding foglights is fairly easier if you have the factory assembled plug-in underdash harness (still fairly easy without).

The plug-in harness has the plug for the factory foglight switch (a 77-84 VW Rabbit/Jetta part), fuse holder, relay socket, and the connects to the main wiring harness. If the foglight harness is still available (it was less than $20 when I bought mine), I would suggest trying to buy it as a starting point, then you can use whichever foglights you want.

A hot wire is already under the hood, waiting for connection to the foglights by the brake vacuum booster where the main wiring harness comes out of the firewall.

Under the hood, you mount the foglights to the bumpers in the predrilled holes, and run the hot wire to the lights, and a ground wire over to the main ground location in the left front corner.

I wrote an article on foglight installation that was submitted to PCA PANORAMA a long time ago. Don't know if it was ever published, but it would have been after the magazine article that I wrote that was published that detailed how to install and troubleshoot the rear window wiper (fifteen years ago?).

OK, I went through my vehicle documentation, and the receipt from the original delivery shows the following as dealer add-ons:
Rust Proofing (Rusty Jones)
Polybond
Stop-a-flat
CR 2000 Cassette Stereo
Cruise Control
Fog Lamps

So, these are dealer installed Bosch Fog Lamps "FO SHO"!



I'll try to get pictures of the mounting tomorrow or Thursday night.
