Hello, My green (auto

) 924 is pristine on the outside, mostly great mechanically (I'll get to that...) but the interior, woe! Dash is bad (i saw learfxr's dash attempt - I think I can live with mine, now! Front seats are shot. I've had no luck trying to source the brown with white pinstripe fabric - porsche-a-part in WA australia had 1.5m at $yikes! per meter. not even enough for one seat.

Any Ideas?

Anyone got two good seats in that brown?

924's seem to be a bit of a rarity down here. There's only one or two places in each major city i.e. Bris/Syd/Melb/Perth that specialise in Porsches, let alone 924's.

I suspect you're not going to be able to source that fabric for any reasonable price here. I doubt you'd be lucky enough to find some good 2nd-hand seats, let alone ones covered in the fabric you're after.

Methinks your best bet, unless you really want to keep it in original trim, is to go to your local automotive upholsterer and get the seats completely recovered in some generic fabric. You can probably get full leather for the price of a square metre of that original fabric, by the sounds of it

Thanks for the reply, mate. I've been tossing up the refit idea since I bought the car, but wanted to keep it all orig, + back seats are pretty good. I'll be able to get a beige, a cream, a light brown, or an off white to match, keeping the orig "leatherette" sides.

btw, I had porsche Sydney look at it for a power loss at high revs issue that they couldn't fix - turned out to be a blocked filter due to change to unleaded! gotta do that change again soon.

Seats are not cheap and if you have to ship them, Look Out! Even importing the fabric can cost a lot of money to go through customs. Somthing to due with where it was made/ colour and kind of material. Ask me how I know....

I found a pair of beautiful seats in the USA and after a description to customs, I would probably pay nearly $400 to get them across the boarder.

They were from Germany, orginal seats and a really nice redish checkered pattern.

Long story > short. I bough nearly perfect seats from 000Minus on this board for $400 shipping included.

My advice is find a nice strong pair of seats and have them re-covered.

Is this what your looking for? They will be for sale. They are in great shape. Not a single rip or tear. Unfortunately, I am in California.

I bought these off ebay about a year ago to replace ripped sport seats. After I installed them, I realized I liked the feel of the sport seats much better. I finally found a place to to get the original sport seats reupholstered. They should be ready any day now. So these pinstripes will be available.

If you ship the seats from the US or UK, have the sender ship them from his home address and on the label on the box state that they are being shipped to AUS to have them rebuilt, and it is NOT a sale, that would at least give you a shot at not paying duty. Other than that, the seats weight 35-40 lbs each and even when taken apart, they only fit in a large box. Shipping will be expensive.

a thought on the shipping problem; if your frames are good then you just need the covers. The covers come off quite easily and would be lot cheaper to ship.

The import costs are not too bad. Worst case will be GST on cost plus freight charge.

I would take the car to an auto upholsterer as Khal suggests and find out what they can do and how much it'll cost. If you're looking for total originality it may take some time to find genuine seats/fabric in your design and if you get yours professionally recovered then at least they look and feel good while you wait.
