I thought this was pretty funny, these two girls in a 80s 5l mustang were trying to race me today. I wasn't trying to race them as obviously it would look ridiculous my car would be miles away haha. One of the girls was like lets race that porsche I was just listening to music and driving normal but I have a flownmaster muffler and its pretty loud so they probably thought my car goes fast, it doesn't sound like a 4cyl.
anyways they were following me for like 15 mins and doing burnouts at the light and cuting me off.
guess they wanted to beat me and say they beat a porsche with their mustang.
just wondering can a 5 litre mustang beat a 951 from stop too? what about a 928?
5 litre mustangs have around 400hp I think. a 928 has close to 300 I think, funny how a cheap mustang can beat a 928 but obviously the 928 is a much nicer car than a mustang.
when driving the 924 I notice people like to try and race me and cut in front of me , another guy in a maxima was doing that and some guy in a mercedes compressor was trying to get me to race at the light.
also my friends think my car is fast even when I tell them it's slow and donly has a 110 hp. _________________ 78 924 sold.

400hp in a 5-litre Mustang?! Me thinks not...
All things being equal, the V8 will always have the edge off the line.
Mustang outrun a 928?! Not bloody likely! _________________ '80 924 Turbo |

oh are you serious a stock 5l mustang can't outrun a 928? oviously the different year 928s vary in engine size and hp.
I think a stock 5 l mustang from the 80s/ 90s has at least 300 hp and moded once can have like 500 hp.
I have seen moded 80s mustangs with 500 hp in the paper for like 6 grand compared to 928 which costs 12-20 thousand for a nice one here. _________________ 78 924 sold.

Oh here we go...
"If I strap twin supercharger and nitrous to my Ford 5-litre I can make 5000hp!" Get over it...
The 2001 Mustang Cobra had about 320hp.
The 1995 928 GTS had about 350hp. _________________ '80 924 Turbo |

Yes, all the different years and models of both the Mustang and 928 had different power outputs, so which ones are we comparing? _________________ '80 924 Turbo |

I have a NA auto.
I am lucky to drag off the local kids on their way to school.
However, it winds up pretty good in second.
Still, a lot of people try to drag me off. I let them go. It must be real satisfying to them to beat a 21+ car that has only 2lt engine. _________________ Porsche 924 1984 (UK import) NA

I don't know much about the mustang or the 928 but I know late 80s / early 90s 5.O l Mustangs have 300 hp not shure if it is 5.0 Gt or Cobra or whatever.
I doubt anyone has nitrous on a 5l mustang they are just moded with a superchargers and other mods. Again I don't really know anything about car mods.
thats why so many people drive mustangs, I see tons of mustangs everyday, its because for the price they offer alot of power and a v8. you can get late 80s/ early 90s mustang as cheap as 3 grand and it comes with around 300 hp, I don't like mustangs but if you like going fast and don't have the money for fast porsche or another fast european/ japanese import they are a good deal.
i'm pretty sure thats why the mustang has become a classic and is still made because you get a fast car for little money. _________________ 78 924 sold.

yeah I know, but everyone doesn't know that the 924 is only a 2l 4cyl they think its a porsche so it must be fast.
when i go to the gas station the people are always suprised when I tell them to fill it up with regular, they've told me , your porsche must be the only model that takes regular gas. _________________ 78 924 sold.

Yeah, sorry, I don't enjoy getting into these "this car's quicker than that car" arguments. Depends on so many things...
Mine's a Turbo, so off the line it's less than spectacular. Second and third gear out of a corner is pretty impressive, though
And yeah, people wanna race all the time. _________________ '80 924 Turbo |

There's not much opportunity for 'racing' on the island roads here. The closest I came is when I was driving sensibly, at night, along a residential street, when a 'riced' toy-mobile came up behind. When they saw it was Porsche ahead, the driver got up really close to try and get me to race. I had nothing to prove, so I just carried on driving at 30 and they backed off.
I did overtake this one guy twice on the way to work this morning, though! (Overtook him, stopped to drop the wife off at work, he got past, overtook him again further on up. ) _________________ 1985 Porsche 924 'Lux', Kalahari Beige (my ex)

yeah the 924 is pretty slow in first and second gear, even old vans can out accellerate it. but in 3/ 4th gear it pretty quick for a small 4cyl from the 70s. _________________ 78 924 sold.

Tim the early to mid 90's Mustangs came off the showroom floor with 225-250 hp dependant on which model you choose. When you consider the shear hp/torque needed to propel almost 4000 lbs. of mass and the only thing making it "fast" was the gear ratio which was just low enough to allow easy burnouts from a stand still.

According to the Porsche Tecnical Bulletin issued 25/May/99 no 08/99,
924's 1976-85 should be filled with 98 RON fuel but 95 RON is acceptable.
Isn't regular 92 RON? _________________ Porsche 924 1984 (UK import) NA

doesn't the 924 have a huge gas tank for a small car? it says 62 litres. _________________ 78 924 sold.

I get it all the time... usually off either kids with more plastic stuck to their car than anything else or middle aged guys in big sale's-rep mobiles.
The 924 is still a pretty quick car for it's age though and it's got it where it counts in the handling department. I still don't bother with the gimps though, no point putting yourself and your passengers in a box for the sake of entertaining morons. _________________ Mars Red '78 Euro 924 n/a
